Nissan Formula E Team To Feature Abbi Pulling And Gabriele Minì In Upcoming Berlin Rookie Test
Abbi Pulling and Gabriele Minì are set to participate in the FIA Formula E Rookie Test for Nissan Formula E Team. They will drive the Nissan e-4ORCE 05 on 14 July at Berlin's Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit. Pulling, who topped the timesheets in an all-women's session last November, will make her first appearance with Nissan as a rookie and simulator driver.
Minì is returning for his third stint with the team, thanks to a partnership between Nissan Formula E Team and Alpine Racing. The Italian driver aims to build on his previous experiences, including a top-10 finish in last year's Berlin Rookie Test and a second-place finish in FP0 in Jeddah. He has also achieved a podium finish in the Monaco Sprint Race during his debut FIA Formula 2 season.
Nissan entered the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in Season 5 (2018/19), becoming the first Japanese manufacturer to join. In Season 7 (2020/21), they committed long-term to the GEN3 era, which spans from Season 9 (2022/23) to Season 12 (2025/26). In April 2022, Nissan took full ownership of its involvement by acquiring the e.dams race team.
The test day at Berlin's circuit will feature two sessions on its 2.343-kilometre track with 15 corners. The surface is known for being abrasive, adding complexity for drivers managing tire wear. The first session starts at 09:00 local time (UTC+2) and ends at noon, followed by another three-hour session from 13:00 to 16:00.
Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal of Nissan Formula E Team, expressed enthusiasm about having Pulling and Minì for this year's Berlin rookie test. "We’re very happy to have Abbi and Gabriele with us for the Berlin rookie test this year," he said. "It will be Abbi’s first on-track action since joining us as our rookie and simulator driver."
Pulling shared her excitement about working with the team again: "I’m really excited to get out on track and to work with the team again." She looks forward to learning from Minì's experience at Berlin's track and aims to gather valuable insights during her time there.
Formula E's Role in Promoting Sustainability
The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship was certified as having a net zero carbon footprint from its inception in 2020. It invests in climate-protecting projects across race markets to offset emissions each season. This series serves as a platform for testing electric technology advancements while promoting sustainable mobility in urban areas.
Minì expressed his eagerness to return: "It’s great to be back, I’ve enjoyed my two previous outings with the team." He plans to leverage his past experiences at this circuit and aims to contribute positively towards completing the team's program while showcasing his skills.
Nissan announced its commitment to electrification goals by signing up for the GEN4 era until 2030 before Tokyo E-Prix on March 28th, 2024. This aligns with their Ambition 2030 targets of achieving carbon neutrality by mid-century through electrifying new vehicle offerings by early next decade.
Nissan's participation in Formula E aims not only at showcasing zero-emission vehicles but also transferring knowledge between racetrack innovations into consumer electric vehicles globally.
