New Yellow Taxis In Kolkata: Iconic Ambassador Replaced Amid Pollution Concerns
The iconic yellow Ambassador taxis, once a staple of Kolkata's streets, are becoming rare due to pollution concerns. To address this, the WagonR from Maruti Suzuki has been introduced as a replacement. Although it shares the yellow hue, many feel it lacks the Ambassador's charm. Users report that the travel experience differs significantly from the original.
The state Transport Minister recently launched these new yellow taxis. Initially, 20 WagonR taxis have been introduced by a private company. Plans are in place to add another 3,000 vehicles in the coming months. These new taxis promise enhanced comfort and safety for passengers.
The WagonR Tour H3 variant is designated for taxi use in India. It comes in both petrol and CNG versions. The petrol model delivers 25.19 km per litre, while the CNG variant offers 33.48 km per kg. This makes it an economical choice for taxi operators.
Equipped with modern features, the WagonR aims to provide a safer journey. It includes airbags for both driver and passengers, ABS with EBD, and an Electronic Stability Program. Additional features like Rear Parking Sensor, Seatbelt Reminder, Central Door Locking System, and Speed Limit facility enhance its appeal.
Despite its modern amenities, many still reminisce about the Ambassador's unique ride quality. There are rumours that the Ambassador might return in a new form, but this remains unconfirmed. The nostalgia associated with the Ambassador continues to linger among its former users.
