New BMW Panoramic IDrive Revolutionises Vehicle Operation With Advanced Technology And Intuitive Design

The BMW Group is showcasing its future driving and user experience at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. Attendees can explore the near-production version of the new BMW iDrive, featuring the innovative BMW Panoramic Vision. This system is powered by the new BMW Operating System X, which will be integrated into all new BMW models from late 2025.

The BMW Panoramic Vision combines four key elements to enhance driver focus. It projects information across the windscreen, visible to all occupants, with crucial driving data directly in the driver's line of sight. The central display allows personalisation of content, creating a 3D effect for both drivers and passengers.

The BMW Operating System X is an advanced update based on an Android Open Source Project software stack. It offers enhanced update capabilities and backward compatibility, ensuring vehicles remain technologically advanced over time. This system integrates seamlessly with the BMW Panoramic Vision and other features.

Frank Weber, a member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, stated, "High tech meets highly intuitive operation – a quarter of a century of pioneering work and technological leadership in operating concepts has been channelled into the new BMW Panoramic iDrive." This highlights BMW's commitment to innovation in infotainment systems.

The new system allows extensive personalisation options for drivers. Users can adjust displays according to their preferences and choose settings for driving attributes like response and steering characteristics. The integration of Large Language Models enhances navigation through natural language commands.

The multifunction steering wheel incorporates a shy-tech approach with illuminated buttons for easy function access. It provides active haptic feedback, allowing drivers to operate controls without taking their eyes off the road. This design supports BMW's "hands on the wheel, eyes on the road" philosophy.

Innovative Display Technologies

The optional BMW 3D Head-Up Display presents navigation and automated driving information directly in front of the driver. The content coordination between this display and the Panoramic Vision ensures seamless information delivery. Several patents underline the innovation level achieved by these technologies.

Stephan Durach, Senior Vice President Connected Company at BMW Group, remarked on this advancement: "The overall concept of the new BMW Panoramic iDrive with Operating System X has been enabled by a large technological leap forward." This reflects how technology enhances user interaction and personalisation.

BMW's Commitment to Technological Leadership

The development phase involved studies with around 3,000 customers in usability labs. These insights helped align user experience with customer preferences. The system's intelligence expands further with proactive suggestions based on user behaviour, enhancing driver assistance systems' usage.

The HypersonX sound experience adds another dimension to this holistic experience in Neue Klasse models. Developed by the BMW Group Sound Design Studio, it includes 43 sound signals tailored to driving situations, creating an emotional connection between driver and vehicle.

BMW Group's Presence in America

In America, BMW (US) Holding Corp., established in 1975, oversees various operations including marketing and sales for brands like MINI and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. The South Carolina plant assembles several Sports Activity Vehicles while headquarters are located in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey.

This comprehensive approach ensures that every journey becomes a unique moment between human and machine. Adrian van Hooydonk from BMW Group Design emphasised that digital experiences are increasingly important as technology evolves rapidly alongside customer preferences.
