Anders Bell Honoured As Leader In Software-Defined Vehicle Innovator Awards By MotorTrend
MotorTrend has recognised Anders Bell, Volvo Cars' Chief Engineering & Technology Officer, as a winner in the Leader category of the Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) Innovator Awards. This accolade highlights his role in developing core computing technology for the all-electric Volvo EX90. The awards celebrate individuals in senior management who are driving the automotive industry's transformation through software solutions.
Anders Bell has nearly 25 years of experience and has led a significant technological shift at Volvo Cars. His leadership in developing the EX90 marks a milestone for the company, surpassing its move to electrification. The EX90 is Volvo's first car to be entirely software-defined from start to finish, built on advanced computing technology.
The SDV Innovator Awards aim to honour those leading the automotive industry's shift from hardware to software. MotorTrend established these awards to recognise innovators redefining vehicle design, manufacturing, operation, and experience. Winners are selected in Pioneer, Leader, and Expert categories by MotorTrend's editorial team.
Bell and his team have transformed Volvo Cars into a more efficient producer of safer vehicles. With customer consent, cars can now gather data from advanced sensors to better understand their surroundings. This data helps Volvo contextualise information and speed up the development of future safety features.
Volvo Cars has a long history of using data for safety innovations. One notable invention is the three-point seat belt introduced in 1959, which is estimated to have saved one million lives since then.
Acknowledging Team Efforts
"I'm truly honoured but this award is of course for all of us," says Anders Bell. "The whole Engineering team has worked relentlessly together to create a fantastic car where it is today and by this - also taking the first step into a new era for the company. We all know we’re not done, but the way forward is clear. Super exciting times ahead."
