MG Motor's Electric Vehicles Thrive In South Indian Market
MG Motor's electric vehicles have gained significant popularity in India, especially in the southern regions. The MG Windsor EV, a notable electric CUV model, has been particularly well-received. This model is the first of its kind available for purchase in India, and it has captured the interest of many Indian consumers.
According to data from the Government Vehicle (Vahan) platform, MG Motor sold 22,646 electric vehicles in 2024. Of these, 10,698 units were purchased in South India, making up 47.2% of total sales. Karnataka leads with the highest sales, followed by Telangana and Kerala. Other southern states also show strong sales figures.

The Windsor EV is available at a starting price of Rs. 9.99 lakh under the 'Battery As A Service' scheme. Without this scheme, the price rises to Rs. 13.50 lakh ex-showroom. Under the scheme, users pay Rs. 3.5 per km driven. Other models like the Comet EV and ZS EV are also offered with this scheme.
MG's electric cars are not only popular in South India but are also gaining traction nationwide. The demand for these vehicles is expected to grow further, potentially challenging competitors like Tata Motors and other brands in the electric vehicle market.
The Windsor EV's pricing strategy offers flexibility to buyers through the 'Battery As A Service' scheme. This approach allows customers to manage costs based on their usage, making it an attractive option for many potential buyers.
Overall, MG Motor's electric vehicles are experiencing a positive reception across India, with a particularly strong presence in South India. The growing demand indicates a promising future for MG's electric offerings as they continue to expand their market share.
