MG EXE181 Concept Car Wins Prestigious IF Design Award In 2025
The MG EXE181 concept car, which was a highlight at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2024, has won an iF Design Award in the 2025 Concept Vehicle category. This award is part of one of the world's largest design competitions, attracting about 11,000 entries from nearly 70 countries each year.
Envisioned by Carl Gotham and his team at SAIC Design Advanced London, the EXE181 pays homage to the original EX181 'roaring raindrop MG' that set land speed records in the late 1950s. Sir Stirling Moss reached 246 mph in 1957, and Phil Hill later achieved 257 mph in this iconic vehicle.
The EXE181 concept imagines a future MG land speed record challenger powered by kilowatts and rotors instead of traditional engines. The design retains many features of the original MG while showcasing style, innovation, and efficiency. It serves as a symbol for MG's next chapter.
Carl Gotham stated, "It was a unique opportunity for our designers. We wanted to celebrate MG’s remarkable past as a daring and innovative sports car manufacturer that pushed boundaries." The team aimed to create an all-electric MG land speed record car using advanced materials and technology.
SAIC Motor R&D Innovation Headquarters also received an iF Design Award for their Rising OS Intelligent Cockpit System Design. This system offers a glimpse into future passenger mobility with advanced HMI algorithms that enhance safety, comfort, and personal driving preferences.
MG Motor UK benefits from these innovations as part of SAIC Motor. Established in 1924, MG is known for its affordable and stylish British sports cars. Today, it offers a range of models including petrol, hybrid, and zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs).
