Mercedes G 450d Launched At Rs 2.9 Crore - The Return Of The Diesel Gelandewagen
German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has launched the new G 450d SUV in India at Rs 2.9 crore (ex-showroom). Only 50 units of the G 450d are being made available in the first batch for the Indian market.
The diesel-powered G-Class version marks the return of the six-cylinder engine to the G-Class lineup after a brief gap and is positioned between the petrol-powered G 400 and the electric G 580 EQG.

The new Mercedes G 450d is powered by an all-new 3.0-litre inline-six turbocharged diesel engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. The diesel Gelandewagen produces 362bhp and 750Nm of peak torque, which is channelled to all four wheels through a 9-speed automatic transmission.
Mercedes claims the G 450d accelerates from 0-100km/h in 5.8 seconds and can reach a top speed of 210km/h. Despite its on-road performance figures, the G 450d retains the G-Class's signature off-road capability, offering 241mm of ground clearance, a 700mm water wading depth, and approach, breakover, and departure angles of 31°, 26°, and 30°, respectively.

The exterior design of the G 450d remains faithful to the G-Class silhouette, with subtle enhancements. The G-Class now features a reworked grille with four horizontal chrome slats, revised bumpers, and new 20-inch AMG alloy wheels.
Inside, the G 450d's cabin introduces Mercedes' latest MBUX NTG7 software running on twin 12.3-inch digital screens. The interface now includes augmented reality navigation and a transparent bonnet function for better visibility in off-road conditions. The G 450d also features a 760W 18-speaker Burmester 3D sound system with Dolby Atmos, Nappa leather upholstery, ambient lighting, and electrically adjustable seats.

Equipment levels are comprehensive, with the G 450d offering Level-2 ADAS functions, adaptive dampers, 360-degree cameras, and a suite of off-road driving modes. The traditional three locking differentials and a ladder-frame chassis.
Mercedes-Benz India's G-Class portfolio now spans diesel, petrol, and electric options. The G 450d undercuts the all-electric G 580 EQG by roughly Rs 20 lakh, offering a more traditional powertrain for enthusiasts who still prefer the performance and range advantages of diesel engines. The limited allocation makes the diesel G-Class a rather exclusive addition to the brand's Indian lineup.
Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, "The new G 450d underlines our commitment to offer diesel, petrol and electric powertrain for the first time in India to the G-Class, the longest running nameplate in the automotive industry. The G 450d featuring Mercedes-Benz's powerful and efficient diesel engine, combines performance with efficiency, reiterating the sustained customer demand for a diesel powertrain in the G-Class. The G 450d ensures Mercedes-Benz now has a 'G-Class' for every customer requirement in India, further elevating practicality along with desirability and cult status of this iconic SUV."
