Mercedes-Benz Announces Third Recall Of 2025 For EQS & GLC Models

Mercedes-Benz has issued its third recall this year due to a potential fire hazard. The recall affects EQS sedans, GLC, AMG SL 55, and S-Class models. This marks the sixth voluntary recall from the luxury carmaker in 2025, impacting 30 units according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). In the US alone, nearly 93,000 Mercedes vehicles have been recalled this week.

The issue involves the fuse box in these models. If not reworked correctly, systems connected to it might fail. This could lead to loss of propulsion without warning and impair restraint functions or the instrument cluster. Such failures increase crash and injury risks. SIAM's website notes that under specific conditions, a thermal incident risk cannot be ruled out.

Details of Affected Models

A total of 16 EQS sedans are affected by this issue, along with nine S-Class (including Maybach), three GLCs, and two AMG SLs. Mercedes is expected to reach out to owners of these units to arrange free repairs. The recall listing highlights potential crash risks and injuries associated with these defects.

The June recall in India affects various models based on their manufacturing dates. The S Class/Maybach S Class petrol models were manufactured between June 22, 2023, and March 20, 2024. AMG SL petrol models were produced from July 5, 2023, to August 28, 2023. GLC models include both petrol and diesel variants made from September 9, 2023, to December 4, 2023. EQS electric models were manufactured between July 19, 2023, and April 8, 2024.

Previous Recalls in 2025

Earlier recalls this year also addressed fire risks and other issues like ECU software glitches and missing warning labels for automatic front passenger airbag shutoff. On March 12 and March 29, recalls were issued for similar fire hazards. The high number of recalls so far is unusual for a brand like Mercedes-Benz.

In January and February of this year, several recalls were made for various models due to different issues. On January 14th, GLCs along with AMG GTs and S Classes were recalled totaling nine units. February saw recalls on the C Class and E Class affecting over two thousand vehicles.

Serial Number Recall Date Affected Models Total Recalled Models
1 January 14 GLC, AMG GT, S Class 96
2 February 3 C Class, E Class 2546
3 February 21 C Class, CLE 604
4 March 12 AMG E 5370
5 March 29 AMG GT63S 10

This series of recalls highlights ongoing challenges faced by Mercedes-Benz in maintaining quality standards across its vehicle lineup in India and globally.

"It has been identified that the fuse boxes might not have been reworked correctly," noted the recall listing on SIAM's website.

The company continues efforts to address these issues promptly by contacting affected vehicle owners for necessary repairs at no cost.
