Mercedes-Benz India Announces Recall For E-Class & CLE Cabriolet Models Over Safety Issues
Mercedes-Benz India has announced a recall for certain models due to safety concerns. The recall affects the previous-generation Mercedes-AMG E 63 S, E 53 4Matic+, and the current CLE Cabriolet. The E-Class models have an electrical connector coupling issue that could lead to a fire, while the CLE Cabriolet lacks a crucial airbag warning label, increasing injury risk in accidents.
Details of the Recall
The recall impacts 70 units of the AMG E-Class models combined. Specifically, 50 units of the E 63 S manufactured between September 14, 2022, and October 12, 2023, are affected. Additionally, 20 units of the E 53 made from January 21, 2021, to January 20, 2023, are also included in this recall.

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) filing reveals that both AMG E-Class models have an electrical connector coupling issue with the transmission wiring harness. This defect may allow water ingress over time, potentially causing a short circuit and thermal overload when parked. Such conditions could result in a fire.
CLE Cabriolet Recall Specifics
The CLE Cabriolet recall involves 59 units produced between April 13, 2024, and June 24, 2024. These vehicles lack a necessary warning label about the automatic front passenger airbag shutoff. Without this label, owners might mistakenly believe that a rearward-facing child seat would be detected and deactivated automatically.
Since the airbag remains active without this label's guidance, using a child seat in this position could increase injury risk during a crash. This oversight necessitates recalling these vehicles to ensure safety compliance and prevent potential harm.
Implications for Affected Models
The affected models include:
| Model | Manufactured From | Manufactured Until |
|---|---|---|
| E 63 S 4Matic+ | September 14, 2022 | October 12, 2023 |
| E 53 4Matic+ | January 21, 2021 | January 20, 2023 |
| CLE Cabriolet | April 13, 2024 | June 24, 2024 |
This recall highlights Mercedes-Benz's commitment to addressing potential safety issues promptly. Owners of affected vehicles should contact their local dealerships for further instructions on rectifying these issues at no additional cost.
