Mercedes-Benz BEV Drivers To Gain Access To Over 20,000 Tesla Superchargers Starting February 2025
From February 2025, Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle drivers in the US will be able to charge at over 20,000 Tesla Superchargers. Canadian drivers will gain access later in 2025. This integration into the Mercedes me Charge service allows seamless "Plug & Charge" functionality for users. A NACS to CCS1 adapter will be available at authorised dealerships, ensuring safe and efficient charging at Tesla Superchargers.
Mercedes-Benz plans to incorporate North American Charging Standard (NACS) ports in its electric vehicles starting in 2025. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance public charging options for its customers. The integration with Tesla's network highlights Mercedes-Benz's commitment to a comprehensive charging ecosystem that offers convenience and speed.
The Tesla Supercharger network will become part of the Mercedes me Charge service, which already includes networks like IONNA, Electrify America, and EVGo. This expansion means Mercedes-Benz drivers will have access to over 110,000 public charging points across North America. Franz Reiner, Chairman of the Board of Management at Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG, stated this move underscores their dedication to providing diverse charging options.
Mercedes-Benz BEV drivers can enjoy "Plug & Charge" at Tesla Superchargers. This feature starts charging automatically when plugged in and processes payments seamlessly when done. A software update for compatible vehicles will be available through authorised dealerships to ensure smooth operation at these stations.
Starting in 2025, new Mercedes-Benz models will include NACS ports, allowing direct connection to any NACS DC fast charging point without an adapter. This development aims to make charging more convenient for future customers by eliminating the need for additional equipment.
An approved NACS to CCS1 adapter will be released for existing Mercedes-Benz EVs with CCS1-compatible ports. Available from Q1 2025 in the US and Q2 2025 in Canada, this adapter ensures compatibility with Tesla Superchargers and costs $185 in the US.
Comprehensive Charging Ecosystem
The integration of NACS into Mercedes-Benz's lineup and the addition of Tesla Superchargers reflect a comprehensive approach to EV charging. In November 2023, Mercedes-Benz launched High-Power Charging stations in North America with plans to expand further by 2026.
The IONNA joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and other automakers aims to establish additional high-power charging points across North America. These efforts are designed to promote broader EV adoption by enhancing public charging infrastructure significantly.
Dimitris Psillakis, CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA, emphasised that adopting NACS standards and opening Tesla's network represents a significant step forward. He noted that this initiative supports their goal of reimagining mobility and setting benchmarks in the luxury segment.
Mercedes me Charge offers visibility on charger locations, availability, status, and pricing through both the app and MBUX infotainment system. The "Navigation with Electric Intelligence" feature guides drivers efficiently with transparent charging stops and times.
