Mecum Indy 2025 Auction Achieves Over $100 Million In Sales For Fifth Consecutive Year

The Mecum Indy 2025 auction, held from May 9-17, achieved over $100 million in sales for the fifth consecutive year. This event, known for its vibrant atmosphere and prime location in Indianapolis, attracted car enthusiasts with its impressive lineup of vehicles. A total of 1,732 cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more were sold during the nine-day event.

Among the top sellers was a 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari which fetched $3.85 million. Other notable sales included a 2015 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse at $2.64 million and a 2023 Ferrari 812 Competizione Coupe that sold for $1.54 million. These vehicles were part of the esteemed Dave Frecka Collection and Apex Collection.

The auction featured several collections that drew significant attention. The estate collection of John Kraman was sold entirely, highlighted by his 1964 Pontiac GTO Hardtop selling for $101,750 and a 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe fetching $93,500. The Bobby Knudsen Collection also stood out with eight Pontiac Catalinas, including two rare "Swiss Cheese" editions.

One of these Catalinas (Lot S114), driven by Jim Wangers, sold for $742,500 while the other (Lot S115) reached $473,000. The Apex Collection also saw strong sales with a 1965 Shelby Cobra CSX4000 Series Roadster going for $990,000 and a 2022 Ford GT selling at $770,000.

Derek Bieri's collection from "Vice Grip Garage" was another highlight. Each vehicle had been restored by Bieri himself as featured on his show. The auction's top-selling cars included a 2018 Ford GT Coupe at $808,500 and a 1969 Chevrolet Yenko Camaro that brought in $715,000.

Other significant sales were a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback in a rare colour combination that sold for $627,000 and a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird which fetched $605,000. These results underscore the enduring appeal of classic cars among collectors.

Upcoming Events

Mecum's next auction is scheduled in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 6-7 with around 600 vehicles expected to be available. Following this is the Florida Summer Special from July 9-12 in Kissimmee where approximately 1,500 vehicles will be featured.

The Mecum Indy auction continues to be a major attraction due to its central location and timing alongside the Indy 500 race in May. Its festival-like atmosphere offers diverse dining options and exhibitors along with new entertainment features like the Adventure Zone for children.
