McLaren And United Autosports Announce Exciting Plans For The 2025 FIA WEC Season With New Livery And Driver Line-up

McLaren Automotive and United Autosports have unveiled their 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) livery. The McLaren GT3 EVO cars will continue with race numbers 59 and 95, marking the 30th anniversary of McLaren's historic win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. A refreshed six-driver team is set for McLaren-United Autosports' WEC campaign, beginning in Qatar in February.

McLaren Automotive, known for its high-performance supercars, is part of the larger McLaren Group. This group was founded by Bruce McLaren in 1963 and includes both automotive production and elite motorsport participation. The company operates from the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey, England.

The new livery for the 2025 season incorporates more of McLaren's signature Papaya colour. This design change enhances the aerodynamic features of the McLaren GT3 EVO cars. The hood, splitter, and rear wing now prominently feature this hue, which also highlights the teardrop cabin shape from above.

The FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) is a leading international sportscar series. It combines Hypercar and LMGT3 categories across eight rounds on four continents. Races vary in length, with the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans being a highlight.

For 2025, James Cottingham and Gregoire Saucy will drive car number 59 alongside Sébastien Baud. Meanwhile, Marino Sato will join Darren Leung and Sean Gelael in car number 95. Both teams aim to build on last year's successes as they compete for top positions.

McLaren debuted in WEC in 2024 with the LM GT3 class introduction. Their GT3 EVO cars showed impressive speed, securing a front-row lockout in Bahrain qualifying and achieving a podium finish in Brazil.

Upcoming Race Calendar

The upcoming WEC season kicks off on February 28 in Qatar at Lusail International Circuit. The championship includes races at Imola, Spa-Francorchamps, Le Mans, Sao Paulo, Texas, Japan's Fuji Speedway, and concludes in Bahrain on November 8.

Richard Dean from United Autosports expressed excitement about racing with McLaren this year: "It is a very special year to be racing with McLaren in the WEC and our 2025 livery celebrates that."

McLaren's Racing Legacy

McLaren has a rich history of innovation in motorsport technology. They introduced carbon fibre chassis technology to Formula 1 in 1981 and launched their first production car, the McLaren 12C, in 2011.

"Now that we have proven the McLaren GT3 EVO’s speed and endurance at the highest level of competition," said Michael Leiters of McLaren Automotive. "We enter the new season confident of competing for the WEC title with our Racing Partner United Autosports."

The company continues to innovate with models like the hybrid hypercar P1™ and its successors such as Senna and Speedtail. In recent years, they introduced Artura Spider as part of their electrified future strategy.

This year marks three decades since McLaren's debut victory at Le Mans with their F1 GTR model. The current cars pay homage to this legacy by carrying numbers reminiscent of that historic win.
