Maurizio Leschiutta Takes Charge As New Head Of Lamborghini Motorsport For 2025 Season
Lamborghini Squadra Corse has appointed Maurizio Leschiutta as its new Head of Motorsport. Leschiutta will manage the development of Lamborghini's racing programmes, including the new Temerario GT3. He reports to Rouven Mohr, Lamborghini's Chief Technical Officer, who previously led the LMDh project in major championships. Leschiutta brings over 30 years of motorsport experience, notably with BMW's LMDh project.
From 2025, Leschiutta will oversee all aspects of Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s racing initiatives. This includes the debut of the SC63 at the 24 Hours of Daytona on January 25-26. Factory drivers Mirko Bortolotti, Romain Grosjean, Daniil Kvyat, and Edoardo Mortara will drive in this historic event. Additionally, Lamborghini will compete in GTD Pro with its Huracán GT3 EVO2 alongside Pfaff Motorsport.
The Huracán GT3 EVO2 is set to participate in major GT championships worldwide. These include DTM, GT World Challenge Europe, British GT, and Italian GT. The aim is to build on last year's success when Lamborghini secured six drivers' titles and 34 victories. The new Temerario GT3 will begin outdoor testing early in the year before its public unveiling.
Leschiutta will also manage the three continental Lamborghini Super Trofeo one-make championships from 2025. These series in Europe, North America, and Asia saw record-breaking grid numbers during the 2024 season. His role includes continuing the development of the SC63 LMDh prototype during its second IMSA GTP campaign and managing the GT3 Customer Racing portfolio.
Before joining Lamborghini, Leschiutta gained extensive experience in motorsport's technical and marketing sectors. He spent 11 years in Formula One focusing on engine development before transitioning to GT racing. Recently, he played a crucial role in BMW’s LMDh programme as project leader since 2021.
Leadership and Vision
Maurizio Leschiutta expressed his enthusiasm about joining Lamborghini Squadra Corse: "It is with great pleasure that I am able to join Lamborghini Squadra Corse. For me, it is an important milestone in becoming a part of such an established and respected name and organisation." He hopes to contribute significantly to Lamborghini's storied history.
Rouven Mohr welcomed Leschiutta warmly: "We are delighted to welcome Maurizio Leschiutta to the Lamborghini family heading into the new season." Mohr highlighted Leschiutta’s vast expertise and vision for achieving more success across their racing portfolio.
The upcoming season promises excitement for Lamborghini with the launch of the new Temerario GT3 car in summer and ongoing projects like LMDh in IMSA's GTP class. The successful regional series of Lamborghini Super Trofeo also continues under Leschiutta’s leadership.
