Maserati MSG Racing Secures Double Points Finish In Jeddah E-Prix With Strong Performances From Drivers
The inaugural Formula E race at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit saw Maserati MSG Racing's drivers, Jake Hughes and Stoffel Vandoorne, both secure points. Jake qualified well, reaching the knockout duels, while Stoffel narrowly missed out. They started in P7 and P14 respectively. The competition was tight, with only three-tenths of a second separating them in Group B qualifying.
During the race, both drivers navigated early incidents successfully. A brief Safety Car period helped them gain positions. Jake advanced to P5, while Stoffel moved up to P13. As the Pit Boost window approached, teams strategised around energy management. Jake pitted early to address energy issues and regained fifth place after mandatory stops.
Stoffel pitted three laps later, rejoining in P11. He aimed to return to the points using Attack Mode strategically. By the end of the race, he secured tenth place, earning a point. Meanwhile, Jake faced intense competition from McLaren's Taylor Barnard but managed to defend his position despite energy challenges.
Maserati MSG Racing learned valuable lessons from this race for future events. With another race scheduled at the same circuit without Pit Boost, they aim for improved performance and more points. The team is focused on achieving double duels appearances in upcoming races.
Jake Hughes expressed satisfaction with his performance: "That’s race one done here in Jeddah and overall it was a good day. P7 in qualy P5 in the race so all in all a strong performance." He highlighted the stress of managing energy during the race but felt positive about learning from it.
Stoffel Vandoorne described the event as challenging yet rewarding: "It was a very eventful race. Our first one with the Pit Boost so plenty to learn from, but points with both cars which is the positive of today." He acknowledged difficulties but remained optimistic about future races.
