Maserati MCXtrema Leads CrowdStrike 24 Hours Of Spa, Honouring MC12's Historic Victory
Maserati is marking a significant milestone at the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa 2025. The MCXtrema, a track-only car, leads the event's opening parade. This celebration honours the 20th anniversary of the MC12's first victory at Spa in 2005. That win was achieved under challenging weather conditions by the Vitaphone Team with drivers Michael Bartels, Timo Scheider, and Eric van de Poele.
The MC12's success continued with victories in 2006 and 2008, solidifying its place in motorsport history. The MCXtrema now carries this legacy forward, showcasing Maserati's dedication to racing excellence. The car features a special livery inspired by past triumphs, including a striking blue and black design reminiscent of the Vitaphone Racing team's colours.
Maserati's presence at Spa extends beyond the parade. During the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS weekend, Maserati provides official Safety Cars, Leading Cars, and Medical Cars. This includes models like the MCXtrema, GT2 Stradale, MC20, and two Maserati Grecales. These vehicles highlight Maserati's commitment to performance and innovation.
In addition to leading the parade, Maserati participates in round three of the GT2 European Series by Pirelli. Two Maserati GT2 cars are on the starting grid: one from DINAMIC Motorsport driven by Roberto Pampanini and Mauro Calamia (Pro Am Class) and another from LP Racing with Philippe Prette (Am Class). This involvement underscores Maserati's ongoing success in competitive racing.
Maria Conti, Head of Maserati Corse, expressed enthusiasm for celebrating past victories while looking ahead to future achievements. "Celebrating together with the MCXtrema the twentieth anniversary of the MC12’s first historic victory at the 24 Hours of Spa is not only a tribute to the triumphs of the past but also marks a significant step towards our upcoming centenary in motorsport," she stated.
Maserati's Rich Automotive Heritage
Maserati has a storied history dating back to its first race win in 1926 with Alfieri Maserati driving the Tipo 26 at Targa Florio. The brand continues to innovate by transferring technology from track to road. Its current lineup includes models like the Grecale SUV and GranTurismo grand tourer, all embodying Italian luxury and performance.
The brand offers a range of vehicles equipped with hybrid powertrains and V6 petrol engines. Notably, the MC20 super sports car features a Nettuno V6 engine incorporating F1-derived technologies. Additionally, Maserati embraces electric mobility with models like GranTurismo Folgore and Grecale Folgore.
Maserati aims to shape luxury mobility's future while meeting customer demands worldwide. Aligned with Stellantis' "Dare Forward 2030" plan, it continues expanding Italian luxury globally. The latest addition is the GT2 Stradale road-legal version featuring a powerful V6 Nettuno engine delivering 640 hp (471 kW).
As Maserati approaches its centenary in racing in 2026, it remains committed to excellence on both track and road. The journey began last month at Monte Carlo's legendary street circuit and continues towards this major anniversary at Spa-Francorchamps.
