Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Takes Major Leap In Safety: Now Comes With These Upgrades Including...
Maruti Suzuki has recently enhanced the safety features of the Wagon R, its best-selling model, by incorporating six airbags across all its variants from 2025. This move, following updates to the Celerio and Alto K10, marks a significant improvement from the previous standard of just two front airbags. Alongside this upgrade, the Wagon R now includes a three-point rear centre seatbelt, replacing the lap-type belt, and maintains its compatibility with E20 fuel, a blend comprising 20% ethanol and 80% petrol.
The Wagon R, known for its practicality and affordability, has seen an increase in price by Rs 14,000 across all variants. This price adjustment reflects the additional safety features and technological enhancements. The updated price list shows that the base model, the Wagon R LXi MT, now starts at Rs 5,78,500, while the top-end ZXi+ AMT variant is priced at Rs 7,49,500, ex-showroom Delhi. This price revision aims to offer customers enhanced safety without compromising on the vehicle's value proposition.

Enhanced Safety and Performance
In terms of safety, the updated Wagon R continues to be built on Suzuki's robust Heartect platform, ensuring a sturdy foundation. The addition of ABS with EBD, ESP, central locking, and rear parking sensors as standard across all variants further bolsters the Wagon R's safety credentials. Moreover, the hatchback's engines, available in 1-litre and 1.2-litre petrol options, are now E20 fuel compliant. This compatibility not only aligns with environmental considerations but also offers minor improvements in power and torque, thanks to ethanol's higher octane rating compared to petrol, which also reduces engine knocking.
Despite the comprehensive updates under its hood and in terms of safety features, Maruti has chosen not to alter the Wagon R's exterior and interior design. The car retains its familiar look, featuring electrically-operated ORVMs, 14-inch alloy wheels, and a dual-tone dashboard. The cabin remains equipped with steering-mounted audio controls and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ensuring a convenient and enjoyable driving experience.

Engine Options and Mileage
The Wagon R offers two petrol engine choices: a 1-litre, three-cylinder engine and a more powerful 1.2-litre, four-cylinder engine. Both engines have been made compatible with E20 fuel, and while the former is available with a CNG option for greater fuel efficiency, the latter promises a more spirited drive. These engines can be paired with either a manual gearbox or an AMT, depending on the variant. Although Maruti Suzuki has not yet released updated mileage figures for the MY2025 model, the Wagon R's fuel efficiency has historically been one of its strong selling points.
DriveSpark Thinks
The 2025 Maruti Wagon R's addition of six airbags across the range and its compliance with E20 fuel standards demonstrate Maruti Suzuki's commitment to enhancing safety and environmental sustainability. Despite the price increase, the Wagon R remains a compelling choice for buyers seeking a reliable, efficient, and now even safer hatchback.
