Maruti Suzuki Victoris Bags 5-Star Rating At Global NCAP!

Maruti Suzuki India's new mid-size SUV, the Victoris, has achieved a 5-star safety rating at the Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP). This marks the carmaker's second consecutive top safety result, following its 5-star rating under Bharat NCAP earlier this month.

The Victoris scored 33.72 out of 34 points for adult occupant protection and 41 out of 49 points for child occupant protection, earning the highest safety grade in Global NCAP's updated protocols.

Crash Test Performance

  • In the frontal offset crash test, the Victoris performed exceptionally well.
  • Head and neck protection for both driver and passenger was rated 'good'.
  • Chest protection was 'adequate' for the driver and 'good' for the passenger.
  • Knee and tibia protection was also found to be good, with the footwell area and bodyshell rated as 'stable'.

During the side impact test, the SUV offered good protection to the head, abdomen, and pelvis, while chest protection was rated adequate. In the side pole impact test, all areas-including the head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis-scored 'good'.

Child Safety Performance

Global NCAP used rearward-facing child seats for 18-month and 3-year-old dummies, installed using ISOFIX anchorages with support legs. The setup provided full protection in both frontal and side impacts.
While the SUV does not allow disconnection of the passenger airbag for a rearward-facing child seat in the front, installation tests for all child restraint systems (CRS) passed across all positions.

Standard Safety Features

  • Six airbags
  • ISOFIX child seat mounts
  • ESC (Electronic Stability Control)
  • Seatbelt reminders for all seats
  • Pedestrian protection compliant with UN127 regulations

Top trims, ZX+ and ZX+(O), also feature ADAS technologies such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB) for city and inter-urban use, lane assist, and speed assist.

Other Details

Global NCAP noted that the Victoris' structure remained stable and capable of withstanding further loadings, underscoring Maruti's growing focus on safety engineering. Combined with its Bharat NCAP 5-star score, the Victoris now stands out as one of Maruti Suzuki's safest cars yet.

DriveSpark Thinks

Indian buyers are increasingly prioritizing safety ratings alongside price and fuel efficiency. Competing directly with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the Victoris' strong performance gives it a competitive advantage in the mid-size SUV segment.
