Maruti Suzuki Victoris Annihilates Grand Vitara: Cheaper & Better Equipped
Maruti Suzuki's all-new Victoris has landed as the carmaker's second midsize SUV, sitting alongside the Grand Vitara that has been on sale since 2022. But unlike its sibling-which retails through premium Nexa outlets-the Victoris will serve as Arena's flagship model.
The positioning might be different, but the two SUVs are locked in direct competition for the same midsize SUV buyers. And based on what Maruti has equipped the Victoris with, it's clear which SUV offers the better deal.

Identical Powertrains, But Victoris Offers More Options
Under the skin, both SUVs are mechanically identical, sharing the 1.5-litre petrol engine, strong hybrid setup, and mild hybrid options. However, the Victoris gives buyers more flexibility-its top trims offer both petrol-auto and all-wheel-drive variants, something the Grand Vitara Alpha+(O) lacks.
The Victoris is also more frugal, with its strong hybrid claiming a class-leading 28.65kpl, making it the most fuel-efficient car in India today. Even in non-hybrid trims, Victoris edges ahead of the Grand Vitara on mileage figures.

Exterior Design: Fog Lamps Give Victoris The Edge
Both SUVs come with LED projectors, 17-inch alloys, and dual-tone paint options. But Victoris pulls slightly ahead with LED fog lamps, a feature the Grand Vitara doesn't even offer. It's a small addition but one that enhances safety and style-especially in poor visibility conditions.
Tech-Rich Interior: Victoris Feels A Generation Ahead
Step inside, and the Victoris shows its intent to dominate. The 10.1-inch infotainment screen and 10.25-inch digital driver's display outclass the Grand Vitara's 9-inch and 7-inch units. Audio quality is superior too, thanks to an 8-speaker Dolby Atmos system with subwoofer, compared to the Grand Vitara's basic 6-speaker setup. The Victoris also features a powered tailgate-a convenience completely absent on the Grand Vitara.
Maruti has upgraded the Victoris infotainment system with newer software, pre-installed apps, and improved Suzuki Connect, which now offers over 60 connected features, including Alexa Auto support. This makes Victoris not just more entertaining but also more functional and future-ready.
Driving Features: Mostly Similar, But Adaptive Cruise Sets Victoris Apart
Both SUVs get drive modes, terrain modes for AWD trims, EV mode for hybrids, and hill hold assist. But the Victoris adds adaptive cruise control, a small but significant difference that can transform long highway drives and heavy traffic commutes.
Safety: Victoris Is the Clear Winner
Safety is where the Victoris delivers a knockout blow. It becomes Maruti's first model with Level 2 ADAS, tuned for Indian conditions and offering ten advanced safety features. Add to that front parking sensors-missing on the Grand Vitara-and a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, and the Victoris emerges as the undisputed safety leader. The Grand Vitara, notably, still lacks official crash test scores from Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP.
Pricing: Cheaper & Better Equipped
The Victoris ZXI+(O) trims are priced between Rs 15.82 and Rs 19.99 lakh, while the Grand Vitara Alpha+(O) variants cost Rs 19.92 - Rs 20.68 lakh. That's a massive Rs 4.86 lakh price gap in favor of the Victoris, even before considering its extra features and safety tech.

DriveSpark Thinks
The Victoris doesn't just undercut its sibling-it outclasses it. It's safer, better equipped, more efficient, and significantly more affordable. For buyers, the choice is obvious: the Victoris makes the Grand Vitara feel outdated overnight. Unless Maruti gives the Grand Vitara a major update, the Victoris is set to cannibalize its sales.
