Maruti Suzuki Victoris CBG Variant To Be Showcased At Japan Mobility Expo

Maruti Suzuki's Japanese parent firm Suzuki will unveil a new Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) variant of the Victoris SUV at the upcoming 2025 Japan Mobility Expo. The Suzuki Victoris CBG will debut on October 30th.

The Maruti Suzuki Victoris Compressed Bio-Gas will share display space with the Fronx flex-fuel prototype, both serving as centrepieces of the company's mobility showcase. The India-developed Victoris CBG will also share the spotlight with several future-ready concepts from Suzuki Motor Corporation.

While the exterior and overall layout remain identical to the current Victoris sold in India, the upcoming CBG version uses a modified version of the existing CNG powertrain. It features an underbody dual-cylinder setup, similar to what was introduced with the model's factory-fitted CNG option earlier this year.

The design ensures usable boot space while accommodating the gas storage system safely within the vehicle's chassis. The engineering focus remains on retaining the practicality of a petrol-powered SUV while delivering lower emissions and operating costs associated with renewable bio-gas fuels.

Under the bonnet sits the familiar 1.5-litre K-Series four-cylinder engine, tuned to run efficiently on compressed bio-gas. On CNG, this engine produces 87 bhp and 121.5 Nm of torque, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, and similar figures are expected from the new variant.

The introduction of CBG power aligns with Maruti Suzuki's broader multi-powertrain approach that includes petrol, CNG, CBG, hybrid, and full-electric vehicles. The company has already announced strategic investments in the production and distribution of bio-gas fuel through collaborations with energy partners across India.

The Victoris SUV was launched in India earlier in 2025 with petrol, strong-hybrid, and CNG powertrains, priced from around ₹10.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Deliveries began in September, and the model has since become a core product in Maruti's Nexa portfolio, offering urban buyers a premium mid-size SUV experience.

By choosing to debut the Victoris CBG at an international platform, Maruti Suzuki signals its readiness to move beyond conventional fuels while reinforcing India's emerging role in developing affordable green-energy mobility solutions.
