Maruti Suzuki & Toyota Users Beware! Use This Petrol Or Face Huge Replacement Bills

Maruti Grand Vitara's hybrid model now requires premium-grade petrol, as per recent reports. This recommendation isn't exclusive to Maruti; Toyota also advises using 95 Octane or RON 95 fuel for its Indian models, including the Hyryder and Innova Hycross. This change aims to enhance engine performance.

Toyota has updated the owner's manuals for its Hyryder SUV and Hycross MPV. Cars manufactured after March 2025 should use RON 95 or 95 Octane fuel. This update is intended to optimise engine performance, although it remains unclear if it applies specifically to hybrid or non-hybrid models.

Fuel Recommendations for Toyota Models

The Innova Hycross manual does not differentiate between hybrid and non-hybrid versions regarding fuel type. Both versions may require 95 Octane fuel. However, the Toyota Hyryder's hybrid version needs premium RON 95 grade, while its non-hybrid variant with a K15C series engine can run on 91 Octane.

Not only will the Toyota Innova Hycross receive this update, but so will the Maruti Suzuki Invicto MPV. The Invicto is a badge-engineered version of the Hycross produced after March 2025. Toyota's decision stems from concerns that low-octane fuel could harm the vehicle's catalytic converter.

Importance of Using Premium Fuel

While regular 91 Octane might suffice, it could shorten the catalytic converter's lifespan, leading to costly repairs over time. In vehicles like the Toyota Hyryder, replacing this part could exceed ₹50,000. Thus, using 95 Octane fuel as recommended by manufacturers seems prudent.

The premium-grade petrol with a higher octane rating offers better performance and engine protection than standard petrol. It's ideal for high-performance engines, turbocharged engines, and luxury vehicles that recommend or require higher octane levels.

Catalytic Converter Functionality

If your car stalls frequently, loses power, or consumes more fuel than usual, visiting an authorised service centre is wise. These issues might indicate a faulty catalytic converter. A catalytic converter controls exhaust emissions in internal combustion engine vehicles.

With stricter emission norms each year, vehicle complexity increases. Manufacturers must adjust engines to comply with these norms, affecting vehicle prices. Catalytic converters convert toxic gases in exhaust into less harmful substances before release through the tailpipe.
