Maruti Suzuki Takes Safety To New Heights: All About Nexa & Arena Safety Shield

Maruti Suzuki has faced sharp criticism over safety for a long time now. While rivals like Tata Motors and Mahindra proudly flaunt their Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP five-star ratings, India's largest carmaker often lagged behind in this regard.

That said, Maruti Suzuki is now trying to erase this image by launching safer vehicles in India, and a testament to this new route is the new-gen Dzire which bagged 5-star NCAP-rating.

Furthermore, Maruti Suzuki has announced a major push towards safer mobility with the rollout of its new Nexa Safety Shield and Arena Safety Shield initiatives. These umbrella packages bring a host of advanced safety features across models, aiming to standardize protection instead of reserving it for top-end models.

What's Inside the Safety Shield?

Maruti Suzuki says its Safety Shield lineup includes:

Six airbags (standard on 14 models, across 140+ variants)

ABS with EBD

ESP with Hill-Hold Assist (now standard across all models)

ISOFIX child seat mounts

Three-point ELR seat belts with reminders

Reverse parking systems

Pedestrian impact protection

Beyond the basics, Maruti Suzuki has also been adding modern tech to its cars with features such as 360-degree camera, heads-up display, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, front parking assist, and even Level 2 ADAS in some models.

Maruti's Pushback Against Perception

Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer (Marketing & Sales) at Maruti Suzuki, underlined that safety is now a "strategic priority" for the brand.

"In FY 2024-25, we made significant strides in enhancing vehicle safety. ESP is now standard across the portfolio, and six airbags have been introduced in 14 models. We are the first company to offer six airbags in over 140 variants," he said.

Banerjee stressed that safety at Maruti is no longer limited to passive features like airbags but extends to active systems as well, with the Nexa and Arena Safety Shields being proof of intent.

DriveSpark Thinks

This announcement from Maruti Suzuki is a signal of effort to rebuild trust in an area where competitors have lept ahead. While Global NCAP ratings still matter in consumer perception, the brand wants to show that it's no longer playing catch-up, but they are actively trying to set benchmarks in mass-market car safety.
