Maruti Suzuki Jimny Faces Low Sales In India Despite High Demand In Japan
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny, manufactured in India, has seen remarkable demand in Japan, resulting in a 3.5-year waiting period. However, its performance in India tells a different story. The SUV's sales have been disappointing, making it the second-lowest selling model for Maruti in February with just 385 units sold, slightly more than the Invicto's 380 units.
Despite its lacklustre sales in India, the Jimny is packed with features that appeal to off-road enthusiasts. It is powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder K15B mild-hybrid petrol engine, delivering 105 hp and 134 Nm of torque. Buyers can choose between a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The Jimny comes with modern amenities like electrically adjustable ORVMs and a multi-functional steering wheel with mounted controls. It also supports wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SmartPlay Pro touchscreen infotainment system enhances the driving experience.
To boost its domestic appeal, Maruti Suzuki India is offering a ₹1 lakh discount on the Jimny this month. This strategy aims to make the SUV more attractive to Indian buyers and improve its sales performance in the local market.

Safety is not compromised in the Jimny. It includes dual front airbags, side and curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes with EBD, and electronic stability control among other advanced safety features. These elements ensure a secure driving experience for passengers.
The SUV also offers convenience features like automatic climate control and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. An upgraded 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system with Arkamys surround sound caters to those seeking premium comfort.

Despite these appealing features and strong international demand, Jimny's sales in India remain low. In October 2024, it sold 1,211 units but dropped to just 163 units by January 2025, marking the lowest in six months before slightly rising to 385 units in February 2025.
DriveSpark Thinks
While the Maruti Suzuki Jimny enjoys significant popularity and a long waiting list in Japan, its reception in India is entirely different. Sales figures have failed to meet expectations. However, the SUV's many features and specifications, coupled with the current cash discount, make it an attractive option for customers in India."
