Maruti Suzuki India Reports 1% Sales Growth In April 2025 Amid Challenges
Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the nation's largest car manufacturer, reported a slight 1% year-on-year increase in sales for April 2025. However, month-on-month sales saw an 8% decline. The company has ambitious plans for FY26, aiming to double its market growth rate with a production target of 2.55 million units, representing a 10% year-on-year increase.
In April 2025, Maruti's domestic sales reached 1,38,704 units, marking a 1% rise from the previous year's figure of 1,37,952 units. Despite this growth, the company experienced an 8% drop in month-on-month sales compared to March 2025's total of 1,50,743 units. Maruti currently holds a commanding market share of 39.2%.

Compact Cars Lead Sales
The compact car segment was particularly successful for Maruti in April 2025. The Dzire sedan emerged as the second best-selling car in India after the Hyundai Creta. It achieved sales of 16,996 units, reflecting a 7% year-on-year increase from April 2024's figure of 15,825 units. Month-on-month sales also rose by 10%, up from March's total of 15,460 units.
Sales of the Brezza slightly decreased by 1%, reaching 16,971 units in April. However, it showed a positive trend with a month-on-month increase of 3%. The Ertiga maintained strong momentum with sales of 15,780 units last month. This represented a significant year-on-year growth of 17%, although there was a month-on-month decline of 6% from March's total of 16,805 units.
Mixed Performance Across Models
The Swift saw its sales rise to 14,592 units in April due to its new launch in May last year. This marked an impressive year-on-year growth of 256%. However, there was an 18% decline in month-on-month sales from March's figure of 17,746 units. Meanwhile, the Fronx maintained steady sales at around 14,345 units and experienced a modest month-on-month growth of about 5% from March's total.
The WagonR faced challenges with both year-on-year and month-on-month declines. Its sales dropped by approximately 25% and further fell by around another quarter compared to March's numbers. Similarly, Baleno recorded lower year-on-year growth at about -6%, though it managed to improve its month-on-month performance by roughly +7% over March.
Eeco and Grand Vitara Struggle
Lower down the rankings were Eeco and Grand Vitara which faced reduced demand. Eeco's sales decreased by about -5%, although it posted a +10% improvement on a monthly basis. Grand Vitara suffered more significantly with a -6% year-on-year decline and an even sharper -31% drop compared to March figures.
The Alto hatchback also struggled with double-digit declines both annually and monthly resulting in just over five thousand unit sales last month alone while XL6 witnessed notable increases reaching over four thousand unit mark showing +18% yearly growth alongside +33% monthly rise respectively.
Other Models' Performance
The Ignis stood out among smaller models achieving positive results at nearly two thousand unit mark whereas Celerio along S Presso experienced sharp declines across both metrics mentioned earlier indicating weaker consumer interest overall during this period under review here today now finally moving onto Jimny which gained traction domestically seeing substantial improvements reaching 431-unit milestone showcasing remarkable 68%-yearly surge coupled alongside 65%-monthly boost too!
