Maruti Suzuki Expands Production Capacity By Building Third Plant In Kharkhoda, Haryana
Maruti Suzuki, a prominent car manufacturer in India, is set to boost its production capacity by building a third plant in Kharkhoda, Haryana. This new facility will add 2.5 lakh vehicles annually to the company's output. The Kharkhoda plant already contributes a similar number, and another plant is under construction. This expansion aims to increase total production in Kharkhoda to 7.5 lakh vehicles by 2029.
The financial investment for this expansion is projected at Rs. 7,410 crore. This move aligns with Maruti Suzuki's strategy to meet rising vehicle demand and maintain its leadership in the Indian automotive market. Once the third plant is operational, the company's production capacity will significantly rise, supporting its goal of boosting sales both domestically and internationally.

In 2024, Maruti Suzuki achieved a significant milestone by producing 20 lakh vehicles, marking a historic achievement for the company. This accomplishment not only underscored Maruti Suzuki's production capabilities but also distinguished it as the first to reach this production number within Suzuki Motor Corporation's global operations, as per the December 2024 report.
The detailed production figures revealed that around 60% of these vehicles were manufactured at the Haryana plant, while the remaining 40% came from the Gujarat plant. This distribution highlights the importance of Maruti Suzuki's strategic site planning in contributing to its overall production volumes.

Maruti Suzuki is also enhancing its existing infrastructure and is in the early stages of developing a new greenfield plant. This facility is expected to have an annual capacity of 10 lakh cars, significantly boosting the company's production capabilities. The company is currently searching for a suitable location for this large-scale project, reflecting its commitment to growth and confidence in sustained vehicle demand.
The 20 lakhth vehicle produced in 2024 was an Ertiga, manufactured at the Manesar plant in Haryana. This highlights the diverse range of vehicles produced by Maruti Suzuki, catering to Indian consumers' needs and solidifying its position as India's top-selling vehicle manufacturer.
Investment Commitment and Market Leadership
Maruti Suzuki's plan to expand its production facilities, including establishing a third plant in Kharkhoda, demonstrates its commitment to investment. Although Tamil Nadu is a major automotive manufacturing hub, Maruti Suzuki does not have any plants there. Through these expansions, the company aims to meet growing vehicle demand both in India and abroad while achieving new milestones in production excellence.
This achievement exemplifies Maruti Suzuki's pivotal role in Suzuki Motor Corporation's international operations. The company's strategic expansion efforts are crucial for maintaining its market leadership and meeting increasing consumer demands.
