Maruti Suzuki eVitara Undergoes Crash Test: 5-Stars?

India's leading car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, is gearing up to introduce its first electric SUV, the eVitara. This C Segment electric vehicle made its debut at Auto Expo 2025 and is anticipated to hit the market soon. Recently, images of the eVitara undergoing crash tests have surfaced, showcasing Maruti Suzuki's commitment to safety.

Maruti Suzuki's Safety Commitment

In recent years, Maruti Suzuki has shown a strong focus on vehicle safety. The Swift was the first in their lineup to offer six airbags as standard. Additionally, the Dzire achieved a five-star rating in Global NCAP's crash tests under their latest protocols. These steps highlight the company's dedication to enhancing safety features across its models.

eVitara Crash Test Insights

The newly released images of the eVitara's crash tests appear to be from internal evaluations rather than external agencies like Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP. This approach mirrors what was done with Fronx's crash test footage shared by Maruti Suzuki earlier. The Grand Vitara underwent Bharat NCAP testing in July 2024, but those results remain undisclosed.

Platform and Safety Features

Built on Suzuki's HEARTECT-e platform, the eVitara offers a flat floor for maximum passenger space. Over 50% of this platform comprises high tensile steel, ensuring strength and rigidity for occupant and battery safety. Innovative chassis features include shock-absorbing mounts and multi-load paths for effective impact force distribution.

Production and Future Plans

Maruti Suzuki's Gujarat plant is responsible for producing the eVitara alongside Toyota's Urban Cruiser EV counterpart. The company plans to launch four new electric cars in India, with eVitara leading the charge. It will be available with two battery options—49 kWh and 61 kWh—and offers both single motor FWD and dual motor AWD versions.

Performance Specifications

The eVitara promises impressive performance with a peak system output of up to 181 bhp and 300 Nm torque. Depending on the powertrain choice, it can deliver a range of up to 500 km. These specifications make it an attractive option for those seeking an efficient yet powerful electric SUV.

Maruti Suzuki continues to prioritise safety while expanding its electric vehicle lineup in India. With innovative design elements and robust performance capabilities, the eVitara is set to make a significant impact in the Indian automotive market.
