Maruti Suzuki e Vitara For India Revealed: 543km Range, 5-Star Safety & BaaS Launch Plan
Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the e Vitara will launch in India in early 2026, rolling out with a claimed single-charge range of up to 543 km and a 5-star rating under the Bharat NCAP crash-test programme.
Maruti Suzuki also revealed an optional Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription scheme along with a plan to build a nationwide charging network before deliveries begin, which will expand to 100,000 units by 2030 with a charger being offered every 5-10km.

Maruti Suzuki stated that the 61 kWh battery version of the e Vitara will offer 543 km range as per ARAI testing. Alongside the 61 kWh battery, the e Vitara will also be offered with a smaller 49 kWh pack.
The 61 kWh variant of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will be offered with a 174 PS electric motor driving the front wheels. The 49 kWh pack variant will be mated to a 144 PS motor. The car will use a front-wheel-drive layout at launch.

Safety-wise, the SUV scored 5 stars in the Bharat NCAP adult- and child-protection tests. Maruti confirmed that e Vitara will ship with 7 airbags, high-strength steel structure, ESC, tyre-pressure monitoring system, 360° camera, all-disc brakes, parking sensors and more - a safety package uncommon in its price-segment peers.
Under the BaaS scheme, buyers can opt for a battery subscription instead of an outright purchase. Maruti Suzuki said this gives flexibility, lowers upfront EV costs, and is backed by a buy-back guarantee.

Maruti Suzuki also announced plans for a massive charging infrastructure build-out - starting with over 2,000 charging points across dealership and service locations, and aiming for more than 100,000 public chargers ahead of full rollout.
The five-star crash test result and long-range claim together suggest that e Vitara will become one of the most compelling electric SUV offers in its segment when it debuts next year. The range and features of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara could help address typical EV concerns around charging infrastructure and safety features.

DriveSpark Thinks!
Maruti's EV roadmap - marked by this launch - positions the e Vitara as the company's flagship EV for India's mass premium-SUV segment; the BaaS option and charging network commitment indicate a serious push to overcome adoption barriers.
