2 Versions Of Maruti Suzuki Baleno Underwent Bharat-NCAP Crash Testing - Here's What Happened

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno underwent crash testing by Bharat NCAP in two configurations: one with 2 airbags and another with 6 airbags. Both versions showed satisfactory safety performance, but the 6-airbag model offered slightly better protection for adults. This was mainly due to improved side impact performance, where the 6-airbag version scored higher than its counterpart.

Adult & Child Occupant Protection

In terms of adult occupant protection, the 6-airbag variant achieved a score of 26.52 out of 32 points. In comparison, the 2-airbag version scored 24.04 out of 32. The difference was most notable in the side movable deformable barrier test, where the 6-airbag model scored 14.99 out of 16, while the other variant managed only 12.50 out of 16.

For child occupant safety, both variants received identical scores of 34.81 out of a possible 49 points. The dynamic performance for child dummies was rated similarly across both models. Additionally, both versions were equipped with ISOFIX anchorages on the rear outboard seats to enhance child safety.

Enhanced Safety Features

The inclusion of curtain and thorax airbags in the 6-airbag variant provided enhanced side protection compared to the basic model. Both variants come standard with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), pedestrian protection measures, and seat belt reminders to ensure comprehensive safety features are available.

The tests were conducted on both AGS (automatic gear shift) and MT (manual transmission) trims for each model. Testing was completed in 2024, with results published in 2025. Each vehicle tested had a weight of approximately 1220 kg.

Importance of Variant Selection

The crash test outcomes underscore the benefits of additional airbags in enhancing safety features. Buyers are advised to consider higher-spec variants that offer more extensive safety options. Maruti Suzuki has announced plans to equip their entire car range with six airbags as standard to improve overall safety.

Bharat NCAP ratings clearly distinguish between different equipment levels' protection capabilities, highlighting how crucial it is for buyers to choose wisely when selecting a variant for purchase. That being said, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno safety rating shows a clear advantage of having 6 airbags in cars.
