Maruti Suzuki Dzire Becomes First Sedan In India To Bag 5-Star Bharat NCAP Safety Rating

Maruti's commitment to safety has been underscored by the all-new Maruti Suzuki Dzire receiving a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating. This achievement marks the Dzire as the first sedan in India to earn such recognition. The safety kit onboard includes six airbags, ESP, hill hold assist, a 360° view camera, and reverse parking sensors. These enhancements reflect Maruti's ongoing efforts to upgrade safety features in its vehicles.

The Bharat NCAP is a voluntary safety assessment program similar to Global NCAP. The tested model of the new Maruti Dzire (Petrol– LXI 1.2L ISS 5MT) was equipped with various safety features. These included frontal airbags, side head curtain airbags, side chest airbags, belt pretensioners, belt load limiters, and ISOFIX. Safety assist technologies like ESC, pedestrian protection, and seat belt reminders were also present.

Adult Occupant Protection

In Adult Occupant Protection tests, the new Dzire achieved a 5-star rating with an overall score of 29.46 out of 32 points. During the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test, it scored 14.17 out of 16 points. In the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test, it earned 15.29 out of 16 points. While protection for the driver's chest was rated 'marginal’ in frontal crash tests, other body parts received Good or Adequate ratings.

Child Occupant Protection

The new Dzire also excelled in Child Occupant Protection tests with a 5-star rating and an overall score of 41.57 out of 49 points. It achieved a dynamic score of 23.57 out of 24 points and full marks for CRS installation at 12 out of 12 points. In vehicle assessment, it scored six out of thirteen points.

New Age Baleno Safety Rating

Bharat NCAP also evaluated the New Age Baleno alongside the Dzire. The Baleno received a four-star rating in Adult Occupant Protection with an overall score of 26.52 out of 32 points. For Child Occupant Protection, it was rated three stars with an overall score of 34.81 out of 49 points.

The safety equipment for Baleno is largely similar to that of Dzire but lacks features like the side pelvis airbag available in Dzire.

Future Safety Enhancements

Maruti plans further improvements in its car safety packages by making six airbags standard across all models and variants by year-end. Currently, ten Maruti cars including Alto K10, Celerio, WagonR, Eeco, Swift, Dzire, Brezza, Grand Vitara, Jimny and Invicto offer six airbags as standard.

Additionally, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) has already been made standard across all models and variants by Maruti.
