Mario Andretti To Celebrate 75 Years Of Formula 1 At Goodwood Festival Of Speed In July 2025
The Festival of Speed, presented by Mastercard, is marking the 75th anniversary of the Formula 1 World Championship. Mario Andretti, the 1978 Formula 1 World Champion, will be present throughout the event from Thursday, 10 July to Sunday, 13 July. Attendees can witness Andretti driving his championship-winning Lotus 79 at Goodwood Hill as part of this grand celebration.
Mario Andretti's illustrious career began in dirt track racing with his twin brother Aldo in 1959. Over time, he achieved more than 100 victories across various racing disciplines. Notably, he is one of only two drivers to win in Formula 1, IndyCar, NASCAR, and World Championship Sports Car racing. His achievements include victories at the Daytona 500 in 1967 and the Indy 500 in 1969.
Andretti's involvement in motorsport continues today as he drives a two-seater IndyCar at races and serves on the board of the Cadillac Formula 1 Team. This team is set to debut in F1 in 2026. His family legacy includes sons Michael and Jeff, nephew John, and grandson Mario competing at top levels. At the Indy 500 in both 1991 and 1992, four Andrettis were on the grid.
The Festival of Speed will also feature four-time Formula 1 World Champion Alain Prost among other legendary F1 figures yet to be announced. Andretti expressed his excitement about returning to Goodwood: "I have been to the Goodwood Festival of Speed many times... It’s a memorable experience with a wonderful community of car enthusiasts who bring the heart and the noise."
The Duke of Richmond CBE DL shared his enthusiasm for Andretti's participation: "I am thrilled that Mario will be joining us... He is, in many ways, the ultimate motorsport hero - a truly global superstar." The Duke highlighted Andretti's mastery across various racing disciplines and his charismatic presence.
This year's festival promises an impressive lineup with celebrations for four-time WorldSBK Champion Carl Fogarty and Gordon Murray Automotive’s Central Feature sculpture. While tickets for Friday through Sunday are sold out, limited Thursday tickets remain available at goodwood.com.
