Mahindra's New Strategy: XUV700 To Exclusively Offer 6-Seater & 7-Seater Variants
In a significant shift in strategy, Mahindra has made changes to its XUV700 lineup, indicating a new direction in the highly competitive D Segment SUV market in India. As of May 2025, Mahindra has removed all 5-seater options of the XUV700 from its official website, suggesting that the SUV will now only be available in configurations that accommodate more passengers, specifically in 6-seater and 7-seater variants.

Updates to the XUV700 Variant Lineup
With the discontinuation of the 5-seater models, the XUV700's starting price now begins at Rs 14.49 lakh (Ex-showroom) for the Petrol variant and Rs 14.99 lakh (Ex-showroom) for the Diesel variant. This represents a price adjustment from the earlier base model, which was priced at Rs 13.99 lakh (Ex-showroom) for the 5-seater Petrol MT variant. Additionally, customers opting for variants equipped with the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) will need to pay an extra Rs 50,000. This price revision aligns with the SUV's new positioning in the market, focusing on its larger, more family-oriented configurations.
The restructuring of the XUV700's offerings has resulted in 43 available variants, eliminating the 5-seater option which had been part of the MX, AX5, and AX5S trim levels. The more premium 6-seater configurations are now exclusively found in the AX7 and AX7 L trims, including the Ebony Edition of these models. Despite these changes, the SUV continues to feature the same range of amenities and powertrain options that have contributed to its success.
Powered by either a 2.0L Turbo Petrol engine delivering up to 200 bhp and 380 Nm of torque or a 2.2L Turbo Diesel engine with up to 185 bhp and 450 Nm, the XUV700 remains a formidable player in its class. Both engines are available with 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic transmissions, maintaining the SUV's appeal for a diverse set of drivers.
Competitive Landscape for Mahindra XUV700
Following these updates, the XUV700 now positions itself against larger capacity rivals in the Indian market, such as the Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus from MG Motor, marking a shift from its previous direct competition which also included 5-seater models like the Hector and Harrier from Tata Motors.
