Mahindra Thar Variants Discontinued To Focus On Best-Sellers

Mahindra's Thar SUV, known for its off-road prowess, has been a favourite among enthusiasts. Recent reports indicate that Mahindra has stopped selling certain variants of this popular model. This decision has surprised many fans of the Thar. However, the company has not entirely removed the Thar from its lineup; it has only discontinued specific versions.

The Thar previously offered 19 variants, but Mahindra has now reduced this to 11. The company decided to discontinue eight variants that did not perform well in terms of sales. The focus remains on retaining the mid-range and high-end options, while some higher-priced models have been phased out.

Mahindra Thar Discontinues Certain Variants

Among the discontinued variants are the AX (O) 4WD Convertible and LX AT 4WD Convertible with a 2.0-litre petrol engine. Additionally, the AX (O) 4WD Convertible and 4WD Hard Top, LX 4WD Convertible, and 4WD Hard Top OD with a 2.2-litre diesel engine are no longer available. The LX AT 4WD Hard Top OD and LX AT 4WD Convertible with a 2.0-litre diesel engine have also been removed from the lineup.

Despite these changes, other Thar variants remain available for purchase. The SUV continues to be a top choice for Indian consumers, with prices ranging from Rs. 11.50 lakh to Rs. 17.60 lakh.

Mahindra Thar Discontinues Certain Variants

Mahindra plans to introduce an updated version of the Thar in 2026. This new model aims to build on the strong response the current version has received. Expectations are high that it will be well-received by Indian buyers.

The decision to streamline the Thar's offerings reflects Mahindra's strategy to focus on models that resonate most with customers. By discontinuing less popular variants, the company aims to enhance its appeal and prepare for future releases.

DriveSpark Thinks

The Thar remains one of India's best-selling SUVs despite these changes. Mahindra's upcoming facelift version is expected to attract even more customers, reinforcing its position in the market.
