Mahindra Racing Joins Formula E GEN4 Era - Unveils M12Electro
Mahindra Racing has confirmed its position as a manufacturer for Formula E's GEN4 era, which begins with the 2026-27 championship season. The announcement was made in India during the public showcase of the team's new M12Electro race car at the Scream Electric event.
The Scream Electric event served as Mahindra's major Season 12 presentation platform, introducing the M12Electro alongside the team's updated branding, driver lineup and fan-engagement programme.

Mahindra Racing's commitment extends its Formula E participation until at least 2030. The team entered Formula E in 2013 as a founding member and became the first OEM to commit at the championship's inception. The extended agreement continues one of the longest-running manufacturer programmes in the series.
Across twelve seasons, Mahindra Racing has recorded five E-Prix victories, twenty-nine podium finishes, eleven pole positions and more than one thousand championship points. The past eighteen months saw the team progress significantly, evolving from lower grid positions to consistent podium contention under CEO and Team Principal Frederic Bertrand.

A major part of that progress came through the redesigned M11Electro, which delivered five podium finishes for drivers Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara in Season 11. The newly unveiled M12Electro, first shown at Scream Electric, will serve as the team's challenger for Season 12 with updated hardware and software packages.
Mahindra outlined its GEN4 development direction during the event. GEN4 machinery will feature 450 kW peak race power, a 600 kW ATTACK MODE, 700 kW regenerative braking capability and race energy capacity up to 55 kWh. These figures represent a step up from GEN3 and introduce new performance potential.

The GEN4 car will run two aerodynamic configurations. A high-downforce setup will be used in qualifying, while a low-downforce configuration will be adopted for race sessions. Construction incorporates fully recyclable materials, advancing the sustainability standards of both Formula E and the Mahindra Group.
Mahindra Racing continues to use Formula E as a testing ground for race-to-road electric technologies, transferring learnings in software intelligence, sustainable materials and powertrain efficiency into wider product development. The team described Formula E as a practical environment where innovation and reliability are validated under competitive loads.
The team also highlighted its sustainability credentials at the Scream Electric event, reaffirming its status as the first Formula E team to receive the FIA's Three-Star Environmental Accreditation. Its Planet Positive programme, launched in Season 11, supports communities, sustainable development initiatives and climate-positive operations globally.
Mr. R Velusamy, Chairman of Mahindra Racing, said: "Mahindra Racing has always been a symbol of our commitment to the Race to Road journey - where cutting-edge innovation on the track directly shapes the clean, intelligent, and high-performance mobility solutions we deliver to customers. Formula E is a powerful platforms for innovating new technology, giving us the ability to experiment, learn, and advance electric powertrain efficiency, sustainable materials, and software intelligence.
As we step into the GEN4 era, our ambition only grows stronger. Continuing this journey till 2030 is a testament to our belief in the sport, in electrification, and in India's role in leading global sustainable mobility. We are proud to champion this future, and GEN4 represents an exciting new chapter for Mahindra Racing and the Mahindra Group."
Team Principal Frederic Bertrand said: "I'm delighted to share this announcement that Mahindra Racing will remain in Formula E as a manufacturer for the GEN4 era. As a team, we have been on a fantastic journey over the past two seasons. What we have built and achieved as a group has been exceptional, and with this announcement, we now have the platform to keep growing and developing and achieve even greater success in the future. None of this would be possible without our colleagues across the Mahindra Group.
They have bought into the project and the vision, and we will keep working hard to not only make India proud but also showcase exactly why it has the potential to be a major player on the world stage in the automotive and technology industries. Their enthusiasm to 'Scream Electric' is hugely inspiring to the whole team, and we will continue to represent them with pride in this next exciting chapter of our Formula E story in the coming years."
