Life-Size LEGO Technic McLaren P1 Makes North American Debut At Toronto Auto Show
The 2025 Canadian International Auto Show will showcase a full-scale LEGO Technic McLaren P1. This model, alongside the original hybrid hypercar, offers visitors a unique comparison. From February 14-23, fans can explore the intricate details of this LEGO creation, which mirrors the engineering marvels of the McLaren P1 introduced in 2011.
The life-size LEGO version is crafted from 342,817 pieces and weighs around 1,220 kg. It features functional steering and an electric motor powered by LEGO Technic Function batteries. This allows it to travel further than any previous LEGO model. The build involved 23 specialists from design to construction, taking over 8,344 hours to complete.
McLaren F1 Driver Lando Norris took on the challenge of driving this LEGO masterpiece around Silverstone Circuit. The track's history with McLaren made it an ideal setting for this event. Fans can watch Norris's lap online to witness the car's capabilities.
The smaller 1:8 scale LEGO Technic version includes 3,893 elements and features a unique serial number for exclusive content access. It boasts a 7-speed gearbox, V8 piston engine, adjustable rear wing, and opening dihedral doors. This model offers an immersive building experience true to the real McLaren P1.
Tobias Sühlmann, Chief Design Officer at McLaren Automotive, expressed his excitement about the collaboration with LEGO. "It’s amazing to see so many of the elements from the original P1 brought to life by the LEGO team for the LEGO Technic McLaren P1™," he said.
Kasper Rene Hansen from LEGO Group highlighted their dedication to capturing every detail of the real McLaren P1 in their model. He stated that they faced challenges like designing new mechanisms for iconic butterfly doors but succeeded in creating an authentic replica.
