Lexus GX 550 Wins SUV Of Texas Title At Annual TAWA Truck Rodeo Event

The Lexus GX 550, a third-generation luxury utility vehicle, has been named the SUV of Texas by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) at their annual event. This accolade was awarded during the 31st Texas Truck Rodeo, highlighting the vehicle's blend of off-road capability and luxury. Cynthia Tenhouse, vice president of Lexus marketing, praised the GX 550 for its versatility and reliability.

At the same event, the Toyota Tacoma was honoured as the Truck of Texas. The GX 550 also secured the title of Midsize SUV of Texas, while the Tacoma was recognised as Midsize Truck of Texas. Toyota's Wireless Trailer Camera won Best Towing Technology, and Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0/Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 received Best Driver Assist or Safety Feature.

Lexus GX 550 Named SUV of Texas

The 2024 Lexus GX is designed for adventure with its elegant features and off-road capabilities. It boasts a twin-turbocharged 3.4L V6 engine paired with a 10-speed Direct Shift Automatic Transmission. This engine delivers 349 horsepower and an improved highway fuel economy rating of 21 MPG. The GX is available in six grades: Premium, Premium+, Luxury, Luxury+, Overtrail, and Overtrail+.

The annual Texas Truck Rodeo allows journalists to assess new trucks and SUVs on both off-road courses and street drives. Held at Eagles Canyon Raceway in Decatur, Texas, vehicles are judged on interior quality, exterior design, value, performance, and personal appeal. TAWA President Cory Fourniquet noted that the Lexus GX impressed members with its luxury and technology.
