Chevrolet Unveils Latest Corvette Concept Car Inspired By Southern California Design Heritage

GM has unveiled its second Chevrolet Corvette concept design, set to debut in 2025. This California Corvette concept was crafted by GM's Advanced Design studios in Pasadena. It is part of a global initiative to reimagine the Corvette with a futuristic Southern California flair, reflecting GM's strong ties to the SoCal design community.

The California Corvette concept pays tribute to the iconic heritage of the Corvette while incorporating a unique Southern California style. For many years, GM has used the Corvette nameplate for concepts and prototypes that advance automotive design and engineering. The California Corvette Concept continues this tradition, offering a fresh perspective on what the Corvette could become.

According to Bryan Nesbitt, vice president of global design, "Our Advanced Design teams are dedicated to shaping the future, driving innovation, and exploring what’s possible." He added that the California Corvette concept is another example of forward-thinking design. Multiple GM studios were invited to envision hypercars inspired by the Corvette. The first was revealed by their UK studio in March, and now the California team has delivered a complementary study.

The Pasadena team approached this project as an opportunity to rethink the Corvette without production constraints. Brian Smith, design director at GM Advanced Design Pasadena, stated that Southern California has been central to automotive and design culture for a century. GM has maintained a strong design presence there for nearly 40 years. The concept was developed through a SoCal lens with a global outlook.

The technical specifications of this concept include a tunneled underbody with a lightweight carbon tub, an active aero spoiler and air brake, and large staggered wheels—21 inches at the front and 22 inches at the rear. It assumes a T-shaped prismatic battery pack for low seating and improved airflow around and through the chassis.

The dimensions are 41.4 inches (1,051mm) in height, 86 inches (2,184mm) in width, 182.5 inches (4,669mm) in length, with a wheelbase of 109 inches (2,767mm). These features contribute to its sleek appearance and performance capabilities.

Conceptual Vision

This one-of-a-kind hypercar combines racing-simulator inspiration with classic Corvette elements. Its dramatic exterior proportions include wide wheels with a narrow cabin and cockpit. The single-piece front-hinged canopy allows transformation from an agile sports car into an open-air track car.

The interior focuses on minimalism centered around the driver. Integrated structural elements and performance-focused displays enhance functionality. An augmented-reality HUD provides essential data during high-speed driving.

Global Design Network

GM's Pasadena studios cover 148,000 square feet across three buildings with about 130 staff members involved in various aspects of design and development. This facility plays an important role within GM’s global design network alongside studios in Detroit, Shanghai, Seoul, the UK, and Los Angeles.

This latest concept showcases GM's commitment to innovation while honouring its legacy through creative exploration within its global network of advanced design studios.
