Land Rover Defender Octa Launched In India: Prices Start At Rs 2.59 Crore
Land Rover has unveiled the Defender Octa in India, setting a new benchmark in its lineup with a price tag of Rs 2.59 crore. This model stands out as the most robust and adventure-ready version of the Defender yet, outpacing its nearest competitor, the Mercedes-AMG G63. For those seeking even more off-road prowess, the Defender Octa Edition One is available for Rs 2.79 crore, although this variant will only be on offer during the first year of its production.
Distinctive features of the Defender Octa include 22-inch wheels, expanded wheel arches, a revamped front look, and a higher stance. Inside, occupants are treated to an enhanced 11.4-inch touchscreen display, high-performance seats, and fresh upholstery choices. The vehicle's off-road capability is bolstered by a new suspension setup and an increased ride height, ensuring superior performance on rugged terrains.
Powered by a potent 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, the Defender Octa generates an impressive 635hp and up to 800Nm of torque. This formidable powertrain is coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission that distributes power to all four wheels. This setup enables the SUV to sprint from 0 to 100kph in just 3.8 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 250kph. The Edition One variant, however, has its top speed capped at 160kph.
In addition to its muscular performance, the Defender Octa sports a distinctive exterior styling that includes bespoke wheels and paint finishes. Available only in the 110 body style, it features flared arches, a larger grille, and a revised front bumper, enhancing its aggressive stance. The SUV also boasts exclusive paint options like Carpathian Grey and Petra Copper, with optional matte finishes for added uniqueness.
The interior of the Defender Octa is similarly upgraded with luxury and technology. Notably, the new performance seats incorporate Land Rover's innovative Body and Soul Seat audio technology, allowing the seats to vibrate in harmony with the music playing through the SUV's sound system. A larger infotainment touchscreen and premium semi-aniline leather upholstery further elevate the cabin experience.
Land Rover has equipped the Defender Octa with an array of off-road enhancements to solidify its status as the most capable Defender on challenging terrains. The 6D Dynamics suspension system improves both on-road and off-road dynamics by hydraulically interlinking the dampers, essentially negating the need for a physical anti-roll bar. This innovation results in improved wheel articulation and minimizes pitch and body roll.
Moreover, the Defender Octa comes with extended wishbones, enhanced underbody protection, a bespoke drive setting with off-road launch mode, and a significant increase in ground clearance. These upgrades contribute to a better approach, departure, and breakover angles, as well as deeper wading depth and increased articulation, ensuring exemplary off-road performance.
