Lamborghini Temerario Unveils Innovative Hybrid Powertrain With V8 Twin Turbo Engine
The Lamborghini Temerario, a super sports car, features a hybrid powertrain with a twin-turbo V8 engine and three electric motors. Developed at Automobili Lamborghini's headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese, this setup delivers 920 CV. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 340 km/h, making it one of the most powerful in its class.
The V8 biturbo engine generates peak power of 800 CV between 9,000 and 9,750 rpm and provides 730 Nm of torque from 4,000 to 7,000 rpm. This engine is complemented by an electric motor positioned between the V8 and the gearbox. This motor ensures immediate response at low speeds and maintains performance through gear shifts by filling torque gaps.
Two large turbochargers are compactly placed within the engine's V configuration, known as a "hot V8," enhancing efficiency and thermal management. Motorsport-inspired solutions like the flat-plane crankshaft contribute to achieving high revs by ensuring optimal fluid dynamics and producing a distinctive sound.
Titanium connecting rods reduce weight due to their strength and lightness, decreasing rotating masses. The design also includes finger followers coated with Diamond Like Carbon (DLC), which increases hardness and strength, allowing them to withstand speeds up to 11,000 rpm.
This powertrain combines the smooth revving nature of naturally aspirated engines with the power delivery of turbo engines. The integration of electric drives adds to its uniqueness in operation and sound. Lamborghini has successfully developed a V8 biturbo that merges the linear rev development of previous naturally aspirated V10s with modern turbo engine power.
The vehicle is not yet available for sale and is not subject to Directive 1999/94/EC. Fuel consumption and emissions data are still undergoing type testing.
