Lamborghini SC63 To Compete In Daytona 24 Hours As Official Factory Team For First Time
Lamborghini Squadra Corse is set to compete in the top class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for the first time as an official factory team. The team will participate in the 24 Hours at Daytona, marking a significant milestone in its racing history. The Lamborghini SC63, entering its second season, debuted in both the IMSA and FIA World Endurance Championships last year.
The focus this year is on the Michelin Endurance Cup rounds of the North American series. After making its IMSA debut at Sebring last season, Lamborghini Squadra Corse is now embarking on its first full campaign in the Endurance Cup. The experienced drivers Mirko Bortolotti, Romain Grosjean, Daniil Kvyat, and Edoardo Mortara will lead the charge at Daytona.
Bortolotti and Kvyat transition from the WEC programme to compete in all five rounds of the IMSA Endurance Cup season with the #63 Lamborghini SC63. They will join forces with Grosjean, who returns to Lamborghini after impressive performances last year. Mortara will lend his expertise at Daytona before focusing on a GT3 campaign with Lamborghini for the rest of 2025.
In addition to their GTP entry, Lamborghini will also compete in a full season of IMSA in the GTD Pro class. Canadian team Pfaff Motorsports joins as a factory-supported team for both Sprint and Endurance Cup championships. Andrea Caldarelli and Marco Mapelli are full-season drivers, joined by Jordan Pepper for Daytona and James Hinchcliffe for the Endurance Cup.
Wayne Taylor Racing returns for another full-season effort in GTD. Danny Formal leads alongside Trent Hindman, with Graham Doyle joining for five Endurance Cup rounds. Last year's full-season driver Kyle Marcelli will race at Daytona. Forte Racing fields Misha Goikhberg and Mario Farnbacher for a full season, with Franck Perera participating in endurance rounds and NASCAR veteran Parker Kligerman joining at Daytona.
Lamborghini has a strong history at Daytona 24 Hours, winning three consecutive times from 2018 to 2020. Grasser Racing Team secured their maiden win two years after their debut with drivers Mirko Bortolotti, Rolf Ineichen, Rik Breukers, and Franck Perera. Another victory followed during a red-flag impacted race, and Paul Miller Racing completed the hat-trick in 2020.
Daytona Weekend Overview
The action commenced with the traditional pre-season Roar before the 24 at Daytona International Speedway last weekend. The #63 car finished within the top five in two of seven sessions despite weather interruptions on Sunday. The race weekend begins Thursday with practice sessions leading into qualifying.
The schedule includes Free Practice 1 on Thursday morning followed by qualifying in the afternoon and Free Practice 2 later that evening. Friday features Free Practice 3 before Saturday's race start at 13:40 EST (GMT-5).
