Lamborghini Polo Storico Archive Celebrates Ten Years Of Preserving Automotive Heritage
Lamborghini's Archive is a treasure trove of documents that narrate the brand's history. This collection, established in 2015 alongside Polo Storico, supports restoration and certification efforts. It plays a crucial role in preserving Lamborghini's heritage. The Archive contains over 30,000 records, including technical drawings and historical documents, which are vital for understanding the company's past and guiding its future.
The Archive's significance is highlighted by Alessandro Farmeschi, After Sales Director at Automobili Lamborghini. He stated, "The Archive is the foundation of everything we do. It guides us, teaches us, reminds us who we are. Every restoration and certification begins there, with over 30,000 documents and artefacts that tell stories of people, details and cars." This underscores the Archive's role in maintaining the brand's legacy.
At its Sant’Agata Bolognese facility, Polo Storico houses an extensive collection of materials dating back to Lamborghini’s inception in 1963. These include production sheets, sketches, photographs, and commercial correspondence. Such resources are invaluable for documenting Lamborghini’s evolution and aiding restoration projects. They have been instrumental in reconstructing vehicles like the Countach LP 500 prototype.
The Archive continues to expand annually by acquiring new information and recovering lost documents. Collaborations with former employees and collectors further enrich this heritage. This ongoing effort strengthens the connection between Lamborghini’s past and future. The Archive not only preserves history but also ensures it is passed on to future generations.
In honour of its tenth anniversary, Lamborghini Polo Storico has released four short films showcasing its mission. Each film focuses on a core aspect: the historical Archive; the ‘Comitato dei Saggi’, a group of former employees providing expertise; restoration; and certification processes. These films highlight how Polo Storico safeguards Lamborghini’s legacy through meticulous documentation.
The tenth-anniversary celebrations began in St. Moritz in February and will continue at prestigious events worldwide. The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August will host part of these celebrations before concluding at Auto e Moto d’Epoca in Bologna from 23 to 26 October.
Polo Storico’s dedication to preserving Lamborghini’s history is evident through its comprehensive archival work. By maintaining detailed records and collaborating with experts, it ensures that each car tells its own story while respecting the brand’s rich heritage.
