Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2s Show Resilience In Challenging Sebring 12 Hours Race

Lamborghini Squadra Corse faced a tough challenge during the second round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Sebring. The Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2s struggled to achieve top results in the 12 Hours of Sebring. Despite setbacks, Andrea Caldarelli, Marco Mapelli, and James Hinchcliffe managed to secure a 10th place finish with the #9 Pfaff Motorsports car.

In the GTP class, Lamborghini SC63 showed improvement from Daytona but faced disappointment. Romain Grosjean, Mirko Bortolotti, and Daniil Kvyat started strong but had to retire due to an exhaust issue. This decision was made on safety grounds with three hours left in the race.

The trio of Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 cars encountered difficulties during free practice sessions. The #9 Pfaff Motorsports car dealt with brake and electrical issues. Despite these challenges, Caldarelli qualified eighth in the GTD Pro session. Meanwhile, Mario Farnbacher secured seventh place for the #78 Forte Racing machine in GTD qualifying.

During the race, Caldarelli showcased the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2's strengths by climbing to fourth place early on. However, a torque sensor issue required an unscheduled pit stop. Mapelli took over after Caldarelli's stints, but further drama ensued when Hinchcliffe injured his foot during a pit incident.

The #78 Forte Racing Huracán ran well initially, reaching podium positions with Misha Goikhberg driving. Unfortunately, Parker Kligerman suffered a puncture early in his stint, forcing a slow return to the pits. Despite these setbacks, Farnbacher managed to recover some ground and finished 12th.

The #45 WTR Huracán faced its own challenges as brake issues forced Trent Hindman into an early pit stop. Down three laps from the start, it was a difficult journey to the finish line. However, Danny Formal and Graham Doyle persevered to complete the race in 14th place.

GTP Class Performance

In GTP class practice sessions, Lamborghini focused on improving rear-end stability and overall balance for their SC63 car. Despite setup changes and positive driver feedback, qualifying was hindered by a five-minute penalty for a previous infraction. Grosjean qualified 11th on the grid for the race.

During the race's initial stages, Grosjean advanced two positions before gaining another spot due to a penalty for a rival BMW team. A full course caution allowed them to cycle into the lead briefly after pitting just before it occurred.

However, miscommunication between Grosjean and the pit box led to losing positions at restart. After Grosjean's stint ended, Kvyat took over but remained in 11th place as they awaited another caution that never came.

Lamborghini Squadra Corse endured another challenging IMSA season round at Sebring but found optimism in their car's driveability under race conditions despite setbacks across both GTP and GTD/GTD Pro classes.
