Lamborghini Achieves Historic Victory At The 24 Hours Of Spa With Grasser Racing Team's Huracán GT3 EVO2
Lamborghini achieved a significant milestone by winning the 24 Hours of Spa for the first time. This victory adds to their history of success, including wins at Daytona and Sebring. The triumph at Spa marks Lamborghini's 191st GT3 era victory, setting the stage for the upcoming launch of the Huracán successor, the Temerario GT3, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on 11th July.
The #63 Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2, driven by Mirko Bortolotti, Luca Engstler, and Jordan Pepper, secured this historic win. Starting from 19th position due to a penalty, they steadily climbed up the ranks. Bortolotti began the race, gaining positions early on. As night fell, their strategy paid off, propelling them towards victory.
Pepper took over driving duties after Bortolotti's initial stint. He managed a double stint before handing over to Engstler. The team capitalised on strategic opportunities during full course yellow periods. Despite challenges from competitors like Porsche #96, they maintained focus and executed their plan effectively.
Another full course yellow with four hours left seemed advantageous for Porsche #96. However, Pepper and Bortolotti closed the gap from 17 seconds behind. A puncture slowed Porsche just before a pit stop with under two hours remaining. Bortolotti regained the lead and maintained it until the end.
The other Pro entry Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 faced setbacks despite a strong start by Sandy Mitchell. Power steering failure ended their race prematurely after midnight. Meanwhile, Gold Cup #333 Paul Motorsport and Bronze Cup #76 Barwell Motorsport entries completed the race, showcasing reliability.
Jordan Pepper expressed his pride in winning: "Winning this race makes me extremely proud... I want to thank everyone who gave me this opportunity... We have had heartbreak together but this has made us stronger." His gratitude extended to teammates Mirko and Luca for their exceptional performance.
Reflections from Team Members
Luca Engstler shared his joy: "I have no words... I am super happy and so thankful to the Grasser team and Lamborghini." Their efforts culminated in a memorable victory that highlighted teamwork and dedication.
Maurizio Leschiutta, Lamborghini Head of Motorsport, stated: "I am very happy... I want to thank the drivers and the team who have done something truly special." This win reflects years of hard work by Lamborghini Squadra Corse.
Looking Ahead
Rouven Mohr, Chief Technical Officer, remarked: "This is another dream that is coming true... This is the best way to end the 10-year history of the Huracán GT3." The focus now shifts to future races with anticipation for more successes.
Lamborghini's achievement at Spa not only celebrates past accomplishments but also sets a promising path forward with new developments like the Temerario GT3 debuting soon. The team's dedication continues to drive them towards further victories in global motorsport events.
