Lamborghini Secures First British GT Victory Of 2025 Season At Oulton Park
Rob Collard and Hugo Cook achieved a significant milestone for Lamborghini by securing their 10th victory at Oulton Park in the British GT Championship. The duo, representing Barwell Motorsport, led from start to finish in the first race of the weekend, marking another triumph for the Huracán GT3 since 2016. The event took place during the Bank Holiday weekend, with qualifying held on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
Collard, the reigning British GT champion, showcased his skills by setting a leading lap time of 1m33.673 in the initial session, earning pole position for race one in the #1 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2. Meanwhile, Sandy Mitchell, a Lamborghini Factory Driver, secured second place in qualifying, just 0.062 seconds behind Collard's time. This set the stage for an exciting race day.
The opening one-hour race on Monday saw Collard maintain his lead despite early pressure from an Aston Martin competitor. Alex Martin managed to keep the #78 car in seventh place after a brief off-track excursion. Collard skillfully maintained a narrow half-second lead throughout his stint, which was briefly interrupted by a full course yellow due to a GT4 crash.
As pit stops commenced, most GT3 cars made their mandatory changes. Collard handed over to Cook while maintaining their lead as their closest rival served an additional five-second penalty during its stop. Martin delayed his pit stop slightly before passing control to Mitchell in the #78 car.
Cook faced pressure from Maxi Götz's Mercedes but kept his composure to maintain a slim lead. Navigating through lapped traffic towards the end of the race allowed Cook to secure his first British GT victory and Lamborghini's initial win of the year by nearly one second. Martin and Mitchell finished fifth after benefiting from a post-race penalty imposed on another competitor.
The afternoon race began under wet conditions with Mitchell holding onto second place initially while Cook dropped to 11th in the #1 car. As track conditions changed, Cook opted for slick tyres early on while others stayed on wets initially.
Weather Impacts and Final Standings
Barwell Motorsport gambled on improving track conditions by bringing Mitchell in two laps later for slicks; however, rain returned forcing another switch back to wets before mandatory stops occurred. A loose wheel further hindered their chances as they had to pit again.
The #1 car remained on slicks throughout eventually finishing 10th despite being lapped once with Collard driving towards completion of this challenging race day at Oulton Park.
In championship standings now Cook holds fourth position with 53 points while Martin is sixth having accumulated 49 points so far this season following these races at Cheshire circuit.
The next round will take place between June 20-22 at Spa-Francorchamps located within Belgium where competitors will continue vying for top honours within this prestigious racing series.
