Korthoff Competition Motors Secures Season-Best Third Place Finish At Sahlen's Six Hours Of The Glen

Korthoff Competition Motors achieved a notable podium finish at the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen. Nearly four years after their debut at Watkins Glen International, the team secured third place in a challenging race. The No. 32 Mercedes-AMG GT3, driven by Kenton Koch, Daniel Morad, and newcomer Mikey Taylor, delivered a strong performance despite numerous setbacks.

The race was marked by unpredictable weather and incidents. Despite starting in third place, the team faced early rain, exhaust damage from a multi-car incident, and a penalty for passing under yellow flags. However, strategic decisions, like taking only two tires during the final pit stop, helped them stay competitive.

Koch overcame food poisoning to drive in the final hour. He moved up the ranks as others pitted for fuel. In a dramatic last-lap dash, he secured third place when the leading car ran out of fuel. This result surpassed their previous best finish of fourth at Laguna Seca.

The driver lineup was finalized just before the race. Koch is a regular driver for Korthoff, while Morad filled in for Maximilian Götz. Taylor joined last minute and made his debut in both GT3 machinery and the GTD category. His addition proved valuable for the team's success.

Morad praised the team's progress since Daytona. "We put that on display here with the actual pace of the car," he said. Despite multiple pit stops due to various challenges, their strategy paid off with a podium finish.

Winward Racing's Resilience

Winward Racing faced significant challenges but retained their championship lead. The No. 57 Mercedes-AMG GT3 suffered severe suspension damage in an early incident but continued racing after repairs. Although they finished many laps behind, they maintained their points advantage over competitors.

Russell Ward acknowledged his team's determination: "Winners never quit and quitters never win." Their decision to continue racing ensured they stayed ahead in the championship standings despite setbacks.

Lone Star Racing's Return

Lone Star Racing returned to competition with drivers Dan Knox, Scott Andrews, and Wyatt Brichacek in the No. 80 Mercedes-AMG GT3. They navigated early challenges but were forced to retire after an incident midway through the race.

The next event for the GTD class is scheduled at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park from July 11 to 13. Teams will aim to build on their performances as they compete in Ontario.

Kenton Koch reflected on their achievement: "It feels good to actually finish on that note because it was a really difficult race." The team's perseverance paid off with a podium finish at a track where they debuted four years ago.
