Škoda Kodiaq Wins Tow Car Of The Year 2025 For Exceptional Towing Performance
The Škoda Kodiaq has been crowned the Tow Car of the Year 2025 by What Car? and The Camping and Caravanning Club. This Czech SUV outperformed 35 competitors, securing the top spot in the '1,700-1,999kg' category. It was tested in its 2.0 TDI 193PS SportLine DSG 4x4 version. Škoda has now claimed this prestigious title eight times, with 36 category wins overall.
Škoda's success extends beyond the Kodiaq. The new Elroq, launched earlier this year, won its first award in the 'Electric car up to 1200kg' category. This recognition highlights Škoda's commitment to supporting vehicle owners who tow. All current models can be equipped with a factory-fitted tow bar and electrics, with some offering an electrically-retractable tow hitch.
Judges from What Car? and The Camping and Caravan Club conducted rigorous tests at Horiba-MIRA proving ground in Warwickshire. They assessed emergency lane changes, acceleration from 30-60mph, braking from 30-0mph, and hill starts on a 1-in-6 slope. Vehicles were also evaluated for towing suitability, including boot space and trailer stability systems.
Steve Huntingford, Editor of What Car?, commented on the Kodiaq’s win: "As always, we look for cars that can be enjoyed every day as well as while towing. As a daily driver the Kodiaq strikes a near ideal ride and handling balance. Keen drivers can enjoy themselves, but the car is comfortable for passengers. There’s enough space for seven to come along for the ride, and the driving position is spot on."
Škoda Auto is navigating through the decade with its Next Level Škoda Strategy. The aim is to become one of Europe's top five best-selling brands by decade's end through attractive entry-level offers and more electric models. The company is leveraging growth markets like India, North Africa, Vietnam, and ASEAN regions.
Škoda delivered over 926,000 vehicles globally in 2024 across its 12 passenger car model ranges: Fabia, Scala, Octavia, Superb, Kamiq, Karoq, Kodiaq, Elroq, Enyaq, Slavia, Kylaq and Kushaq. As part of Volkswagen Group for over three decades, it independently develops components like MEB battery systems and engines for other Group brands.
Global Operations
Škoda operates three production plants in the Czech Republic and has capacities in China, Slovakia, India through group partnerships; also in Vietnam and Ukraine with local partners. Employing around 40,000 people worldwide across nearly 100 markets underscores its global presence.
The Kodiaq’s towing prowess impressed judges further: "The Kodiaq ticks all the right boxes while towing. It’s very stable at the legal limit," Huntingford added. "The engine has enough poke for nipping past dawdling traffic." This accolade reinforces Škoda's reputation as a leader in producing reliable tow vehicles.
