Kia Telluride And EV9 Achieve IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Status For 2025

The 2025 Kia Telluride and EV9 have both achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) designation. This marks the third consecutive year for the Telluride to receive this accolade, even as IIHS has raised its safety standards. Meanwhile, the all-electric EV9 has improved its rating compared to last year.

"IIHS Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ awards reinforce our dedication to building vehicles that not only perform but also provide peace of mind," said Steven Center, COO & EVP, Kia America. "As the IIHS’s safety expectations continue to rise, we remain committed to meeting these standards."

Kia Telluride and EV9 Win IIHS Awards

In 2025, IIHS has further tightened its criteria, focusing more on rear-seat passenger protection. The updated moderate overlap front crash test now includes a second dummy behind the driver to assess back seat safety. Previously, a vehicle could earn a TSP with a good rating in the original test, while an acceptable or good rating in the updated test was needed for TSP+. Now, vehicles must achieve at least an acceptable rating in the updated test for TSP and a good rating for TSP+.

To qualify for a TSP/TSP+ award, vehicles must also secure good ratings in small overlap front and updated side tests. Additionally, they need an acceptable or good rating in pedestrian front crash prevention evaluation during both day and night conditions. All trims should feature headlights rated as acceptable or good.
