Kia Seltos Hybrid Launch Confirmed: 30+km Mileage, No Diesel Engine?
Since its debut in 2019, the Kia Seltos has made a mark in the Indian automobile sector, competing directly with the Hyundai Creta. With an upgrade in 2023, enhancing its features and engine performance, the Seltos has maintained its popularity.
Kia Motors is now gearing up to elevate the Seltos experience further by introducing a new generation equipped with a strong hybrid powertrain. This significant move aims to cater to the growing demand for eco-friendly and fuel-efficient vehicles, setting a new benchmark in the SUV segment.

At an investor's day event, Kia Motors unveiled plans for the new-gen Seltos, highlighting the introduction of a strong hybrid engine. This development is particularly exciting for the Indian market, where the new model is slated for release in 2026. Before its launch in India, the new-gen Seltos is expected to make its global debut by the end of this year. This confirmation signifies Kia's commitment to innovation and sustainability by incorporating a strong hybrid engine into one of its flagship models.
The anticipation around the hybrid version of the Seltos is high, with speculations suggesting a significant upgrade in power and efficiency. While initial expectations leaned towards the incorporation of the 1.6-litre hybrid engine from the Hyundai Kona, recent reports indicate a different approach. Kia is likely to pair the hybrid system with the current model's 1.5-litre N/A petrol engine.
Although specific power figures remain under wraps, this combination is expected to outperform the existing 1.5-litre N/A petrol engine in terms of power output and fuel efficiency. The adoption of hybrid technology is poised to dramatically enhance the Seltos's mileage, potentially exceeding 30km/l in city, thanks to its electric assistance.
Despite the focus on the hybrid model, the new-gen Seltos is expected to retain the 1.5-litre TGDi engine, known for its 158bhp and 253Nm of torque. However, the introduction of the hybrid engine might lead to the phasing out of the 1.5-litre diesel engine, currently the more expensive option in the Seltos lineup.
The hybrid model is anticipated to offer comparable efficiency to a diesel engine, potentially at a more competitive price point. This strategic move by Kia underscores the brand's dedication to offering advanced, fuel-efficient technologies that meet evolving consumer preferences.
