Kia India Set To Launch Electric Vehicles & New Models By 2026
Kia India is set to make a notable entry into the Indian automotive scene with new models and a venture into electric vehicles (EVs). The launch of the Kia Seltos marks the start of this ambitious rollout. Over the next few years, Indian buyers can look forward to a variety of Kia vehicles, with four significant models expected between 2025 and 2026.
The Carens EV will be Kia's first mass-market electric vehicle, expected in June 2025. Although its name is uncertain, it might be called either Clavis EV or Carens EV. This electric MPV will likely share its design with the new Clavis but will have modifications for an electric powertrain. The Carens EV, seen testing in India, is anticipated to use key components from the Hyundai Creta Electric, offering a range over 400 kilometers.

Following the Carens EV, Kia plans to introduce the Seltos EV. Rumours about this electric SUV began after the Kia Seltos was launched in February 2025. Aimed for late 2025 or early 2026, the Seltos EV will feature updated designs like revised bumpers and alloy wheels, along with specific branding for EVs. While battery details are not yet disclosed, it is expected to offer a range of around 400 kilometers per charge, competing with Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400 EV.
Kia is also developing the next-generation Seltos, codenamed SP3i. This model is nearing completion and is set for a global debut by late 2025, with an Indian launch in 2026. The revamped Seltos will introduce a hybrid powertrain alongside existing petrol and diesel engines. It will feature a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a hybrid setup, along with a new design language, updated interiors, and enhanced features.
The rise in electric vehicle sales in India has prompted manufacturers like Kia to invest in EV models. Tata Motors currently leads in electric car sales within the country. Meanwhile, hybrids are gaining popularity due to challenges in diesel engine production, leading many manufacturers to phase out diesel vehicles in favour of hybrids for better fuel efficiency.
Kia's introduction of electric and hybrid models addresses the increasing demand for fuel-efficient options. Hybrids offer excellent fuel economy and are more cost-effective than petrol-only cars despite their higher initial cost. However, electric cars face challenges like limited range and developing charging infrastructure.
Future Prospects
By integrating electric and hybrid vehicles into their lineup, Kia is preparing for sustainable mobility's future. Understanding consumer needs and incorporating unique features will help Kia stand out from competitors. Success in India hinges on tailoring vehicles to meet diverse demands in this third-largest automotive market globally.
