Kia EV6 Facelift Launched In India: Prices Start At Rs 65.9 Lakh

The updated Kia EV6, now available at Rs 65.9 lakh (ex-showroom, India), brings a host of enhancements including a new nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery, which is not only lighter but also boasts an eight percent increase in energy density. This advancement allows for a longer range of 663km as per ARAI standards, and 528km according to the WLTP cycle, marking a significant improvement of 53km over its predecessor.

The car maintains its dual-motor setup, providing all-wheel drive, with a combined output of 325hp and 605Nm. Despite a marginally slower acceleration time of 5.3 seconds from 0-100kph, the EV6's performance remains robust.

Kia has enhanced the EV6's charging capabilities, enabling compatibility with 800V systems. This update permits the use of a 350kW DC fast charger, which significantly reduces charging time from 10 to 80 percent to just 18 minutes. For those using a 50kW DC charger, the full charging time is approximately 73 minutes. Such improvements in battery technology and charging infrastructure underscore Kia's commitment to advancing electric vehicle efficiency and convenience.

Revised Exterior and Interior Design

The facelifted Kia EV6 showcases a refreshed exterior design, drawing inspiration from the flagship Kia EV9 SUV and the international EV3 model. Notably, the DRLs now feature a hook-like design, connected by a slender LED strip, while the Star Map headlights introduce a new aesthetic element. Updates extend to the 19-inch alloy wheels alongside modifications to the rear bumper and tail-lights.

Despite these aesthetic enhancements, the dimensions of the vehicle remain unchanged, measuring 4,695mm in length, 1,890mm in width, 1,570mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,900mm. This consistency in dimensions is intriguing, given the inclusion of a larger battery.

Inside the cabin, Kia introduces a new three-spoke steering wheel equipped with a drive mode button, signaling a subtle yet significant update to the interior controls. A notable addition is the fingerprint scanner, allowing for keyless start by registered drivers. The centre console has been redesigned with a textured finish, moving away from the fingerprint-prone piano black surface.

The curved panoramic screen remains a central feature, comprising two 12.3-inch displays for the instruments and infotainment system. Added comforts include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ambient lighting, a wireless charger, and a 360-degree camera, among others.

Safety and Future EV Plans

Enhancing its safety features, the Kia EV6 now boasts an expanded ADAS suite, incorporating 17 new functionalities to bring the total to 27. These include blind-spot collision avoidance, rear-cross traffic and forward collision avoidance, smart cruise control with stop and go, and lane keep, follow, and exit assists. The vehicle also retains its eight airbags, ABS, ESC, hill-hold assist, and front parking sensors.

Looking ahead, Kia's electric vehicle strategy for India includes the launch of the Carens EV in June 2025 and the Syros EV by March 2026, expanding their EV lineup to four models. This plan highlights Kia's commitment to electrifying its vehicle offerings in India, further solidifying its position in the EV market.
