Today, Kia India announced the upcoming launch of its premium MPV, which has been officially named the Kia Clavis. Set to debut on May 8, 2025, the Clavis is not merely an update but a superior and more luxurious variant of its predecessor, the Carens. It will be marketed alongside the existing model, aiming to offer customers a blend of advanced features and a more commanding road presence.
The Clavis promises a significant leap in design and features, as evidenced by the teaser video released by Kia. It showcases a bold new design direction that includes a more rugged, SUV-like appearance similar to Syros SUV. Anticipated changes include a more pronounced profile, sharper LED lighting, newly designed alloy wheels, and revamped front and rear fascias. Such enhancements are expected to solidify its stance on the road, appealing to those looking for a blend of MPV functionality and SUV aesthetics.
Expanding the Carens Lineup
The Carens has been a successful model for Kia in India, surpassing the sale of 2 lakh units. With the introduction of the Clavis, Kia aims to target customers seeking a more feature-rich and technologically advanced vehicle, while still offering the Carens to those with a more conservative budget. This approach allows Kia to broaden its appeal within the MPV market segment.
Advanced Features and Premium Appeal
The name "Clavis," which translates to "key" in Latin, signifies Kia's ambition to unlock a new standard of premium features within the MPV category. The Clavis is poised to elevate the driving experience with a host of advanced features. Expected offerings include Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a 360-degree surround-view camera, a panoramic sunroof, and an updated interior layout featuring dual 10.25-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Additional luxury features include ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging with cooling, ambient lighting, and a premium audio system.
Mechanically, the Clavis is anticipated to maintain the same powertrain options as the Carens, which includes a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.5L turbo-petrol engine, and a 1.5L diesel engine. These engines will likely continue to be paired with their current transmission choices, including manual, intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT), Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), and automatic.
Scheduled for a market introduction on May 8, 2025, the Kia Clavis is expected to be priced above the current Carens model range of Rs 10.60 lakh to Rs 19.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The Clavis aims to attract buyers who are considering premium MPVs or even mid-size SUVs by offering an upgraded design, enhanced features, and a more premium appeal.
