Kia Carens Facelift To Be Sold Alongside Outgoing Model: All Details Here
The Kia Carens lineup is poised for a significant expansion with the introduction of its facelift and an electric vehicle (EV) variant in the coming months. The facelifted version of the Carens is expected to hit the market in April, while the EV model will follow in June.
Both these new additions will be sold alongside the current iteration of the Carens, but with distinct positioning and naming conventions, as confirmed by Kia India. The facelift will carry a new suffix added to the 'Carens' name, indicating its updated status and premium positioning above the existing model.
The introduction of the facelift and EV models of the Carens is set to elevate the price spectrum of the MPV lineup. Currently, the top-end model of the Carens is priced at Rs 19.70 lakh (ex-showroom), and with the launch of the updated versions, prices are anticipated to surpass the Rs 20 lakh mark for the highest variant.
This strategy mirrors the approach taken by Maruti Suzuki with its Ertiga and XL6 models, aiming to cater to a wider range of customers by offering differentiated versions within the same vehicle category.
The upcoming Kia Carens facelift has been spotted during testing, revealing a design that leans more towards an SUV aesthetic, with muscular features and lighting elements inspired by newer models in the Kia range, such as the Syros.
This design evolution suggests a deliberate effort to distinguish the facelifted Carens from its predecessor, possibly excluding the 115hp 1.5-litre petrol engine from its offerings. Instead, the facelifted model is expected to share the 160hp turbo-petrol and 116hp diesel engines with the current version, maintaining continuity in performance options.
At the pinnacle of the Carens lineup will be the EV variant, projected to command a price around the Rs 25 lakh mark. This all-electric MPV will share its powertrain technology with the Hyundai Creta Electric, offering battery pack options of 42kWh and 51.4kWh. These packs are expected to deliver MIDC-rated ranges of 390km and 473km respectively, positioning the Carens EV as a top-tier choice for eco-conscious drivers seeking a blend of space, style, and sustainability.
The expansion of the Carens range reflects Kia's strategy to diversify its offerings and cater to different segments within the MPV market. Furthermore, Kia's sales data highlights the popularity of the Carens petrol variant, which comprises 58 percent of total sales, indicating a strong market preference.
